Position Summary
Our client is seeking a Plumbing Estimator to support our commercial construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring accurate, competitive, and efficient bid preparation, working closely with vendors, subcontractors, and project managers. The ideal candidate will have a growth mindset, technical estimating expertise, and the ability to collaborate with cross-generational teams.
Your Responsibilities:
Produce hand or digital material, equipment, and fixture takeoffs utilizing Quote Express software.
Generate material and labor take-offs and create accurate cost estimates for bidding projects in various commercial markets, including education, institutional, retail, hotel, corrections, government, process piping, and waste/water treatment.
Identify, communicate, and coordinate the scope of work to request pricing from subcontractors and vendors.
Evaluate bids received for completeness and compliance.
Price materials and estimate labor, extending detailed cost estimates in Microsoft Excel.
Support the adoption of Trimble estimating software and process standardization.
Flag errors or omissions in bids and suggest process improvements.
Collaborate with leadership to develop estimating workflows and best practices.
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years as a Commercial Plumbing Estimator or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Ability to comprehend engineers' specifications and interpret construction drawings (Architectural, Mechanical, Plumbing layouts).
Complete understanding of pipe joining methodologies, including screwed, flanged, MJ, grooved, welded, brazed, soldered joints, compression fittings, and fusion systems.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members, vendors, and customers.
Ability to create and maintain organized estimate files.
Develop a full understanding of project scope per bid documents.
Solicit pricing from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure a complete and accurate bid.
Attend site visits when possible to gain firsthand project insights.
