    What do we do

    Red Rabbit is a Black-owned School Food Management Company that has worked with hundreds of schools, districts, and food banks to uplift communities of color throughout the North East and Mid-Atlantic Regions.

    Since 2005, our professionally trained chefs have created menus, sourced farm fresh ingredients, and cooked delicious, thoughtful, and familiar food. Our food matters not only because it's integral to good health, but because what we eat is an essential part of our cultural identity and sense of self.

    About the Role

    Porters work on a team of 4-6 people who are responsible for helping to ensure that Red Rabbit's kitchen exceeds Department of Health standards and that all equipment is in working order for the kitchen to use each day.

    The ideal candidate has experience maintaining the physical plant of a large warehouse environment, restaurant/kitchen, or hospital setting. In addition, strong candidates are reliable, energetic and have a “can-do” attitude.

    Critical Functions

    • Properly clean all areas of the kitchen to ensure that Red Rabbit is exceeding DOH standards. This includes countertops, cooking equipment, walk-in refrigerators, floors, hand sinks, dishes and storage areas.
    • Remove trash, cardboard, and compost in a timely manner making sure the kitchen is clean and free from debris for food preparation
    • Proactively work to ensure the kitchen team is set-up for meal production each day

    Skills and Abilities

    • 1+ years of work experience in a restaurant, hotel or commissary kitchen
    • Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and procedures, safety and sanitation regulations
    • High School Graduate or equivalent relevant preferred
    • Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and move from area to area in the kitchen
    • Must be reliable, function well within a team, and work calmly and efficiently in a fast moving environment.
    • Must operate proactively and with a sense of urgency and have attention to detail
    • Must have a great attitude who contributes to a positive working environment
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

    Job Type: Full Time

    Typical hours: 6:00am-3:00pm, Monday - Friday

    Location: Queens, New York

    Reports to: Chef

    Compensation: $16.00-$18.50 per hour
