    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    The Test Engineer is responsible for assisting the Test Group and Engineering Development Teams in evaluating and testing products, sub-systems, and individual components to determine and improve performance and reliability.

    This position reports to the Manager of Test & Reliability. Organization, follow-through, and communication skills are essential factors in the daily administration of this position. The candidate will be expected to use engineering skills to complete the assignments given by the requesting engineers.

    YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

    CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT • Actively pursues improvements & ease of doing business to meet/exceed customer needs. • Manage multiple tasks and requests. • Maintain clear and concise scopes of work and complete all tasks on-time. • Schedule and execute tests with outside vendors. • Research and implement new technologies and engineering methods to expand the capabilities of the Test Group.

    TESTING • Design and conduct engineering experiments and tests, collect test data, reduce the data, and write reports summarizing the experiments and tests within a timeframe determined by the requesting engineer and Test Group. • Collaborate with Engineering Development Team to define test scope and technical requirements. • Contribute to and design automated test fixtures. • Contribute to and develop test plans and procedures. • Schedule and execute tests with outside vendors.

    FABRICATION • Fabricate and maintain electromechanical test fixtures using common shop hand tools. • Wire, plumb, and troubleshoot pneumatics and instrument test fixtures. • Perform basic troubleshooting analysis of products or process problems that are discovered during testing. • Troubleshoot and repair products and assemblies to the component level. • Follow all safety procedures and be proactive in setting new procedures where required.

    TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE YOU WILL HAVE:

    Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job, will be considered.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is desirable. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

    • Three or more years experience performing product tests in an engineering environment
    • Three years or more experience in an Engineering Lab, performing product tests or reliability predictions very desirable.
    • Experience with Solidworks CAD modeling and National Instruments software is preferred.
    • Knowledge of and ability to use micrometers, calipers, hand and power tools.
    • Knowledge of machine design, including the selection and application of actuators, motors, materials, and both linear and rotary motion components.
    • Some machining experience with lathes, mills, and other machine shop tools is preferred.
    • Knowledge of pneumatic design, schematic reading, component identification, selection, and troubleshooting preferred.
    • Knowledge of electronics test equipment, including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, and oscilloscopes preferred.
    • Knowledge of electronics troubleshooting techniques, including safety procedures necessary when working on high-voltage supplies.
    • Skillset should also include knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office software, data acquisition, PLCs, or other automation controllers. Able to generate design drawings, geometric tolerance, and dimensioning symbols

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Primary work is in a model shop and lab environment. Occasional work in an office environment, visits to customer Beta sites or other Precor locations to pick-up and deliver products is performed.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Moderate physical effort typical in a model shop environment. Must be able to drive vehicles to deliver and pick up products. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Light physical effort in an office environment.
    • Some lifting of parts/products will be required in the testing and engineering areas.
    • Moderate computer use / data entry.
    • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
