    We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Prep Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation and a strong understanding of kitchen operations. As a Prep Cook, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our culinary operation runs smoothly by assisting in the preparation of high-quality meals and maintaining food safety standards. A Prep Cook is a kitchen staff member primarily responsible for washing, peeling, chopping, and otherwise preparing ingredients like vegetables, meats, and other food items according to recipes, ensuring they are ready for our Chefs to use in preparing dishes, while maintaining cleanliness and following food safety guidelines in the kitchen; essentially, they "prep" the food for cooking.

    Averages 25 hours per week with potential to grow into a larger role/schedule.

    Key responsibilities of a Prep Cook:

    Assist in the preparation of ingredients

    Washing and cutting produce: Washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables, fruits, and herbs.

    Preparation of meat products.

    Portioning meats: Cutting meats into specified portions.

    Measuring ingredients: Accurately measuring ingredients according to recipes.

    Food safety practices: Adhering to proper food handling and sanitation procedures to ensure a safe cooking environment.

    Ingredient storage: Properly storing prepared ingredients to maintain freshness.

    Maintaining cleanliness: Cleaning work stations, equipment, and disposing of waste.

    Following prep/task lists: Following instructions and prep/task lists provided by chefs to ensure consistency and quality in meal preparation.

    Labeling ingredients: Labeling containers with ingredients and dates.

    Stock rotation: Rotating stock to ensure first in, first out. Notifying management when stock is low.

    Collaborate with chefs and other kitchen staff to support task execution during work hours.

    Required skills:

    Proven kitchen experience, including experience as a line chef, restaurant cook or prep cook.

    Basic cooking knowledge: Understanding of cooking techniques and terminology. You know your weights, measurements and volumes as well as food handling temperatures.

    Excellent knife skills: Ability to safely and efficiently chop, slice, and dice ingredients.

    Attention to detail: Precisely measuring and following recipe instructions. You follow all steps and techniques to ensure consistency.

    Physical stamina: Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.

    Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks

    Food safety certification: Knowledge of proper food handling practices.

    Tidy and clean: maintaining a sanitary, food-safe workstation is important to you.

    Communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with other kitchen staff.

    Team player: willing to work together to prep our kitchens.

    Culinary school diploma is a plus but not required.
