With over 40 years of experience, we provide consulting services to government and private sector clients related to aviation, highway, rail, transit, industrial, sustainability, renewable energy, construction, military, recreational, and entertainment projects.

    We are currently seeking a highly motivated Principal Consultant to join our Aviation Environmental & Sustainability (AES) group. This is a remote position, or a hybrid work arrangement in one of our seven offices, reporting directly to the AES Group Leader.

    As a Principal Consultant focusing on the Sustainability practice, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, and managing new business opportunities while maintaining existing customer relationships. The ideal candidate should possess a strong business acumen, exceptional communication and negotiation skills, and a proven track record of successful business development for sustainability and climate resilience related projects. The ideal candidate will also have relevant technical skills related to developing and implementing sustainability plans for organizations of various sizes, and/or climate resiliency for infrastructure projects, public agencies, municipalities, etc.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the management of the largest, most complex, or strategically significant sustainability and climate resiliency projects, ensuring successful execution from start to finish.
    • Act as the primary client service manager for key strategic clients and business partners, fostering long-term relationships and addressing their needs effectively.
    • Develop new market areas and opportunities, leveraging industry expertise and insights to identify and capitalize on emerging sustainability and climate trends.
    • Serve as a recognized industry expert, actively engaging with regulators, speaking at conferences, publishing papers or research, and contributing to professional technical committees.
    • Delegate responsibilities effectively to leverage personal expertise for the benefit of HMMH, while providing guidance and support to earlier career professionals, Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.
    • Responsible for driving and managing operations by supervising subconsultants and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure technical and procedural excellence on projects.
    • Drive business development efforts by consistently meeting or exceeding targets, coaching others in business development strategies, and expanding the company's presence in established and new markets.
    • Prepare advanced letters, reports, and presentations that effectively communicate complex technical information to clients and stakeholders.
    • Stay informed about industry developments and market trends, continuously identifying opportunities for growth and innovation in sustainability and climate.
    • Actively participate in the professional community outside of the company, contributing high-quality presentations, technical papers, and publications.
    • Other duties as needed.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as environmental sciences, engineering, physics, math, or meteorology.
    • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in sustainability, climate resiliency or carbon management, preferably with a focus in the aviation or surface transportation sectors.
    • Proven track record of successfully managing large, complex, or strategically important projects from start to finish.
    • Demonstrated strategic thinker with a proven track record of driving successful operations.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to effectively delegate responsibilities and provide guidance to project teams.
    • Experience supervising subconsultants and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
    • Business development experience, including industry engagement, proposal development and client interviews, proficiency in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and business development metrics.
    • Willingness to travel as needed to support business development and project requirements (up to 30%).
