Job Description
The Principal Electrical Engineer serves as a specialist in the areas of electronic central catalog management including electrical component footprints, maintaining signal integrity model database, DMS management, component engineering and PCB layout of high-speed digital and analog board designs. This position is responsible for supporting EE teams across all ESA sites, providing technical input and consulting services in all phases of the design process.
Responsibilities and Tasks (listed in bullet format) in order of priority to be successful
During all phases of the design and development process, provide technical input and support to product design teams across ESA in the areas of signal and power integrity and electromagnetic compliance.
Following schematic capture but prior to PCB layout, work with ESA EEs and PCB designers and external PCB layout service providers, assisting in defining PCB layout specifications, stack-up, trace clearances, trace widths, trace impedances and all other aspects of the board design relating to signal integrity. Aid the designer in establishing constraints in the layout constraint editor system.
Following PCB layout, analyze the resulting PCB design using ANSYS & Mentor Graphics SI/HFSS tools for potential signal integrity and power integrity issues, interference and coupling issues, and perform 3D EMI analysis.
Maintain/develop SI model library within the Mentor EDM environment. Build and maintain SI model library (.ibis models) within Mentor flow & ANSYS models.
During all phases of the design and development process, provide technical input and support to product design teams across ESA in the areas of component engineering, electrical component library maintenance, schematic symbol and footprint creation. Create DMS reports and perform DMS services on development, NPI and production programs. Experience with Si Expert and/or Accuris tools to accomplish DMS services.
Champion component engineering processes and procedures.
Position will be leading the implementation of Siemens EDM and help train the electrical engineers with the aid of Siemens application engineers on the new software. Assit in developing the necessary processes and procedures around the new toolset.
Maintain/administer the electrical engineering disciplines software tool suite and licensure which includes but not limited to: Siemens Mentor Graphics Expedition Enterprise (Designer, Layout, Hyperlynx, CES), Siemens EDM, ANSYS HFSS/SIWave.
Maintain/develop SI model library within the Mentor EDM environment. Import and maintain SI model library (.ibis models) within Mentor flow & ANSYS models.
Desired and/or growth opportunity: Following schematic capture but prior to PCB layout, work with ESA EEs and PCB designers and external PCB layout service providers, assisting in defining PCB layout specifications, stack-up, trace clearances, trace widths, trace impedances and all other aspects of the board design relating to signal integrity. Aid the designer in establishing constraints in the layout constraint editor system.
Qualifications
Education, Experience & License or Certification
