Principal Engineer (Fire Protection Design Engineer/ Suppression Systems

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS. Primary responsibilities include engineering task analysis, walk-downs, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Plan Drawings, Elevation Drawings, Piping Isometrics, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Riser Details, Hydraulic Calculations (manual and electronically using “HASS” software), and Sway Brace Calculations in accordance with NFPA codes and standards. Provide technical support to site construction forces, start-up & testing, suppliers or subcontract personnel. Prepare Data Sheets, Statements of Work, Procurement Specifications, Design Build Specifications, and Purchase Requisitions.
Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
Work Hours: Up to 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules
including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/l0's (10 hours/day; four days per week), and
9/80's (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables
and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Candidates functioning as Fire Protection Engineers shall be graduates of an ABET accredited Fire Protection Engineering program. If not such a graduate, candidate must be a Registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection.
Candidates possessing Professional or Fellow membership in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) or a NICET Level III/IV certification in Special Hazard Systems or Water-Based Suppression Systems are deemed to have met the above requirements.
Experience/Skills:
Candidate must demonstrate ten (10) years recent design experience, four (4) of which shall be in the following area of expertise:
Special Hazard Systems/Water-Based Suppression Systems Design
Additional skills required:
• Working knowledge of NFPA Codes and Standards, and National Consensus Codes and
Standards such as NFPA 13, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, NFPA 101, IBC, and various other ISA and IEEE standards
• Experience with 2D MicroStation Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)
• Ability to operate Windows Microsoft Office Applications
Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, dressing out in protective clothing and environments where a respirator is required.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years is preferred.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Light to moderate lifting may be required for packages and other items, ability to walk short distances, may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
