Principal Engineer -Technical Support Specialist
DUTIES :
Provide advanced expertise, and support to SRNS operations to resolve very broad to abstract technical issues having division and/or site wide implications. Specific support provided will differ according to assignment, but will generally include directing, planning, developing, implementing, and administering technical operations related programs. Ensure technical aspects of operations or maintenance programs are in compliance with governing directives.
Responsible for directing, planning, developing, implementing, and budgeting for various technical functions in support of the pre-conceptual design, construction, and start-up of process and testing facilities. Interface and negotiate with vendors to resolve equipment, services, staffing, and technical related issues. Evaluate and analyze equipment, instruments, and procedures needed to upgrade operations programs. Evaluate, test, and procure new equipment and instruments in support of assigned operations programs. Ensure technical aspects of operations programs are in compliance with applicable laws, standards, and DOE Orders. Develop operating procedures and training programs to train less qualified technicians on various types of equipment and instruments. Serve on various committees regarding standardization of equipment, instrumentation, processes, and training in support of SRNS and DOE operations programs. Direct daily activity of less qualified technicians and serve as an area point of contact for the most complex technical issues.
Work Hours: A 40 hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering preferred with a minimum of 8 - 12 years of related experience. An Associate's degree and 12 - 15 years of practical experience would substitute for the higher degree requirement. A high school diploma and 4-6 additional years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.
