    MWA, Inc. - Truckee, CA office is seeking a well-rounded and self-motivated applicant for immediate placement as our Structural Department Leader and Senior Principal Engineer. Our work encompasses custom residential, multi-family, and commercial projects. This position is responsible for the entire structural department, managing a team of 4+ engineers and drafters, within our multi-disciplinary team of 23. The department can grow based on the motivation and tenacity of the individual, their business development skills, and their ability to work with our team.     Candidate requirements

    Must be local to the Truckee/Tahoe area or willing to relocate.

    MS or BS degree in engineering with structural emphasis from an accredited engineering program.

    Licensed professional engineer (PE) in California and Nevada.

    Structural Engineer (SE) licensure preferred.

    Working knowledge of software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Excel, Enercalc, and Risa3D.

    Ability to quickly perform rough structural calculations and/or approximations.

    Depth of understanding of current building codes including IBC, CBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 341 & 360, NDS & SPDWS, and TMS 402/602.

    Ability to quickly identify and provide solutions for engineering problems that arise during design and/or construction.

    At least 15 years of experience designing residential and commercial buildings including, with emphasis on complex custom residential and commercial buildings utilizing standard wood framing, structural steel elements, steel moment frames, heavy timber, concrete retaining walls and foundations in new structures, remodels/additions/renovations/repairs as well as conducting field investigations and construction phase observation.

    Familiarity with designing structures for snow and ice, earthquakes, and high wind.

    Experience managing a team.

    Able to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the company as well as outside agencies, contractors, consultants, and clients.

    Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills.

    Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

    Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and grow.

    Requirements

    Physical Body Positions and Movements: Standing, kneeling, bending and sitting for long periods of time. Carrying, use of hands, arms, legs, eyes, ears and voice. Must be able to negotiate rugged terrain on foot.

    Physical Appearance: Must be presentable.

    Mental: Good design and problem solving skills.

    Language requirements are reading, writing, spelling and ability to communicate clearly in English. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries and complaints.

    Reliable Transportation.

    This position requires regular local travel for client meetings and site visits.

    Job Description

    Engineering

    Establish company standards for structural plans and calculation procedures.

    Provide guidance on structural system options to the architectural team during schematic design.

    Serve as a key contact with the architect/designer/client throughout the project.

    Review and quality-control drawings before issuance.

    Seal structural parts of construction documents including plans and calculations.

    Stay abreast of future changes to codes and regulations

    Explore emerging technologies for potential use in design.

    Maintain MWA, Inc. operations, quality and CAD standards relative to the structural design of the project.

    Management

    Craft and implement structural department vision including goals, standards, and culture.

    Direct, manage, train, supervise, and schedule subordinate staff of lower level engineers, project managers, and drafters.

    Identify structural staffing needs and lead the hiring process.

    Prepare and perform annual reviews of staff including review of individual performance, compensation, and bonusing.

    Attend project management scheduling meetings.

    Actively manage project budgets, schedules, project communications and documentation, and structural project team assignments.

    Assist with administrative tasks such as time review/approval, project reporting, and invoicing.

    Occasionally assist with other duties assigned by management.

    Strong leadership, soft skills, and team management capabilities.

    Business development

    Meet with prospective clients.

    Discuss structural requirements with prospective clients. Explains the role of the structural engineer for their project.

    Accurately estimate project fees/hours for inclusion in proposals.

    Prepare proposals for structural-led projects.

    Identify and/or develop new opportunities for structural design work.

    Represent the company at marketing/industry events.

    Estimated annual salary pay (dependent on experience): $145k- $208k
