    Job Description

    We're looking for a Principle Engineer to join our LGC team in Alexandria!

    This role will be responsible for crafting new engineering processes, standards and technology. Sound like you?

    You will own the company in the area of innovation and have a major impact in the development of new products, including intellectual property. The position may exercise considerable latitude in resolving technical objectives of assignments and be passionate about long term results. You'll have positive interaction and collaboration with industry experts along with communicating effectively with subject matter experts across business units.

    Technology Research: Research new and existing technologies that are needed for the strategic development projects including close collaboration with the Business Development and Research team for evaluation of technical options to select the accurate direction for our organization. This includes detailing and communicating data and evaluation notes along with technical recommendations.

    Technology Development: This responsibility will include applying multiple engineering disciplines to difficult engineering problems. These technologies must meet the design inputs provided by our Strategy and Product Management teams.

    Engineering Process and Standards Development: Assisting, and in some cases leading, in the creation of effective engineering processes and development of department and company standards. Examples may include, optics, micro fluidics, motion, materials and others.

    Documentation and Support of Intellectual Property: Maintaining an engineering notebook per the company’s standards. Supporting intellectual property reviews and recommendations within the engineering team. In addition, this resource will have the opportunity to develop and generate new intellectual property and invention(s) at LGC as a primary or supporting inventor. This is an encouraged deliverable.

    Project Team Participation: Serve as a project team member, accountable for deliverables. Cooperate with other disciplines in development activities including software design, controls design, electrical design, mechanical design, document control, quality engineering, test engineering, manufacturing and filed support services. Promotes / applies corporate processes including: design and development, verification and validation, engineering change control, and risk assessment for all designs.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • PHD or MS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 7 years experience or a B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 10 years experience, or equivalent.
    • Strong creativity and problem solving skills.
    • Experience with the accurate software tools required for the assigned specialties.
    • Experienced with testing and lab instruments.
    • High proficiency in the use of personal computers and related software.
    • Experience in Microsoft .NET technologies (VB.net, C#) a plus.
    • Experience in Web programming and technologies (HTML, JavaScript, etc.) a plus.
    • Experience in PLC controls and IEC-61131 (TwinCAT software) a plus.
    • Experience with electrical circuit design and prototyping specifically with PLC hardware, embedded systems, RS232, Ethernet and network systems a plus.
    • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience.
    • Experience in patents and intellectual property document writing a plus.

    Additional Information

    The typical pay range for this role is:

    Minimum: $76,875 annually

    Maximum: $128,125 annually

    This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as: experience, skills, and location.
