Job Summary : The Prison Chaplain provides spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and religious support to inmates of all religious backgrounds within the correctional facility. The Chaplain plays a key role in fostering a rehabilitative environment by addressing the spiritual needs of incarcerated individuals. This role requires a compassionate, non-judgmental, and empathetic approach to ministry, along with a strong understanding of the challenges of the correctional environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Provide spiritual counseling and support to inmates, addressing individual needs and concerns in a confidential and empathetic manner.
Will be expected to work on a close-knit team of instructors, social workers, and correctional officials.
Basic paperwork and strict following of SOP’s is required.
Lead religious services, worship, and prayer groups, catering to various faith traditions and denominations within the facility.
Develop and deliver religious education and spiritual enrichment programs, following a preset curriculum.
Offer grief counseling, crisis intervention, and emotional support for inmates facing personal or family challenges.
Liaison between the facility and religious organizations outside, facilitating opportunities for religious volunteers, donations, or partnerships.
Work closely with correctional officers, administrators, and other staff to create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for spiritual growth.
Maintain accurate records of services provided, counseling sessions, and any relevant interactions with inmates, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to facility protocols.
Participate in facility meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions to support the overall wellbeing of inmates.
Stay informed of current prison policies, security protocols, and cultural awareness to adapt spiritual care services accordingly.
