    Peninsula Community Center, a ministry of Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC), builds community by providing personal, healthy and meaningful connection through aquatics, fitness, tennis and community programming. PCC is a vibrant and forward-thinking church located in Redwood City, dedicated to serving our community and making a positive impact through our outreach programs including our Community Center.     PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE The Private Swim Instructor teaches water safety and proper swimming techniques at an accelerated pace tailored to the individual needs of each student. The instructor plays a key role in fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment while promoting a love for swimming and water safety.

    PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS This position works closely with the Aquatics Program Manager, Aquatics Coordinator, and other swim instructors, as well as directly engaging with students and their families to ensure effective and enjoyable swim instruction. Collaboration with other Community Center teams is also essential to maintaining an excellent aquatics facility and program.

    WORKWEEK

    Commit to three months of a consistent schedule at a time.

    Be available to work as scheduled, ensuring consistency for the swimmers.

    Attend all required training and meetings throughout the year.

    Hours and shifts vary, Weekly hours range: 2-8 hours.

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Teach water safety and swimming techniques to students (ages 2+), adjusting lessons to meet the specific needs of each swimmer.

    Provide clear and constructive feedback and progress reports to students and families.

    Be punctual and reliable; if a sub is needed, take full responsibility for arranging coverage.

    Be willing and available to substitute for others.

    Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Center and collaborate with other teams within the Center to help build a top-tier aquatics facility and program

    EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

    American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.

    Must be at least 15 years old with strong swimming skills.

    Prior swim team coaching and swim instructor experience preferred.

    Preferred certifications include American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches, and USA Swim Coach Core Curriculum.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Must be in the water and sun for extended periods.

    Must be able to hold children (ages 3-12) in the water, stand in the water, swim 300 yards continuously (breaststroke or freestyle), and tread water for two minutes without using arms.

    Must be able to perform all American Red Cross Lifeguard rescue skills, including but not limited to diving up to 12 feet, treading water for extended periods, CPR, rescue breathing, in-water spinal backboarding, and using an AED.

    Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds frequently.

    DOJ background clearance required.

    Must adhere to and model PCC’s Safe Church policies.
