Job Title: Production Engineer – Specialty Chemicals
Location: Greater Houston
Summary:
Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Special Chem operations unit and site utilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1\. Review and evaluate capital projects as required.
2\. Assist in the evaluation of any new products and or processes.
3\. Review efficiency of plant processes and evaluate equipment and process vs. new technology.
4\. Assist in the preparation of the capital budget by recommending payback improvement projects.
5\. Optimize existing processes and show savings either via less waste, less costly waste outlets, more output, or lower fixed cost per unit of production.
6\. Track process yields, establish targets/goals. Recommend and show improvement in yields in key products.
7\. Provide input on equipment and instrumentation selections.
8\. Develop and maintain trends for existing and any other process that becomes part of the manufacturing site.
9\. Learn plant processes and become a technical expert both internally and externally. Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis of any off-spec production or process issues.
10\. Modify (or develop new) procedures as required in accordance with plant policies for any such changes (MOC, etc.).
11\. Assist with plant wide energy savings projects and document.
12\. Train and mentor plant operations personnel on proper process techniques and changes to ensure continuity from day to day.
13\. Assist with loss prevention reviews and recommend/incorporate safety controls on new or modified processes.
14\. Other duties or special projects may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise 4 Utility Operators. Vacation or sick coverage for production supervisor.
Qualifications:
Required: 5 to 10+ years of experience with the essential duties and responsibilities described above.
A BS or higher in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Experience with Process Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment Reviews.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Working knowledge of office productivity software, including spreadsheets and word processing.
Experience with standard operating procedures. Familiarity with health and safety regulations, PSM/RMP. Desired:
High-level knowledge of process control software systems. Experience working with AutoCAD.
Experience working with cGMP processes.
Experience working with boilers, compressors, chillers and cooling towers.
Work Environment:
Approximately 10 % travel. Plant environment.
Exposure to hazardous chemicals and machinery.
