The San Francisco Standard is looking for a Podcast Producer to help launch and run our new flagship weekly news podcast. This show will break down the biggest stories in San Francisco each week, combining sharp reporting with memorable storytelling. As Producer, you'll be in the thick of it—shaping stories, booking guests, cutting tape, and collaborating with reporters, editors, and hosts to create a show that's essential listening for anyone who wants to understand this city.
This is a rare opportunity to join a startup-minded newsroom and help define a new editorial product from the ground up. You'll work closely with the show's hosts and report to the Senior Producer and Editor , contributing at every stage of production from pitch to publish.
Pitch and develop episode ideas that reflect the news and character of San Francisco
Book guests, prep interviews, and coordinate recording sessions (studio and field)
Cut tape and assemble episodes in collaboration with the story editor
Write and edit scripts
Work with reporters across the newsroom to turn their stories into compelling audio
Source archival tape, music, and sound to bring each episode to life
Stay on top of the city's news, culture, and politics to inform weekly editorial planning
Manage production logistics and track deadlines across the team
Collaborate with marketing, social, and audience teams on distribution and promotion
Collaborate on YouTube and social video strategies; identify strong moments for cutdowns
3–5 years of experience in audio production or podcasting
Expertise with tools like Pro Tools and Descript
Demonstrated ability to craft and structure audio stories, especially in a weekly or daily cadence
Skilled in tape cutting, audio mixing, and scripting for the ear
Comfortable booking guests, conducting research, and prepping hosts
Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks under deadline
Salary range: $90,000–$140,000, depending on experience
