This is a full-time on-site role for Production Biologist for SyAqua Americas. This individual will manage technical aspects of shrimp husbandry, reproduction and larval culture in the SyAqua breeding center in Mims, Florida. Based on training and SOPs of the production staff, the individual will be responsible for shrimp husbandry including water preparation, testing of water quality parameters, feeding and other duties as required. Following training the individual will be expected to manage the maintenance and operations of shrimp production systems, maturation systems, larval culture systems. The individual will be expected to record and maintain data files as directed.
Responsibilities include:
Manage husbandry, reproduction and larval rearing systems to assure optimal conditions for growth, reproduction, nauplii production, and larval culture for PL production.
Work with biologist staff to maintain seawater supplies as directed. Measure water quality parameters in production systems. Adjust as necessary to maintain optimal conditions as directed by the biologist staff. Record all measurements in data files.
Complete husbandry duties including cleaning tanks, maintaining filters, feeding animals, exchanging water etc. Biologist will be expected to visually observe the animals and the water in the tanks to report anomalies to the biologist staff and respond as directed to adjust as necessary to maintain animal health.
Manage production duties including maintaining systems, cleaning and assuring operational readiness of equipment, sampling and weighing animals, data entry into Microsoft Excel etc.
Compliance with biosafety protocols in all processes involved in the facilities in charge.
