  • Responsibilities

    Thompson First Group is currently seeking a qualified Production Manager for a local manufacturing client in Emporia, VA.

     

    JOB SUMMARY: The production manager is responsible for overseeing the entire production process in a manufacturing facility, ensuring efficient operations by managing staff, planning production schedules, monitoring quality control, optimizing resource allocation, and resolving issues to meet production targets and deadlines while adhering to safety regulations and cost constraints; essentially, they lead and coordinate all aspects of the manufacturing process to deliver high- quality products on time and within budget.

    • Ensure production will be done according to the plan provided by Production Planner.
    • Ensure procedures are followed by the production team.
    • Reporting production activity and inventory changes.
    • Establish goals for production and coordinate a plan to meet those goals with production planning.
    • Ensure production stays on schedule.
    • Assure products meet quality standards and assist QA department for both internal and external (customer) quality issues.
    • Write production reports
    • Analyze production data and optimize for efficiency.
    • Ensure workers and equipment meet performance and safety requirements.
    • Watch for glitches in the process and look for opportunities to improve operations.
    • Hire, Train, and Assess the performance of workers.
    • Support workers as questions, concerns, or feedback arise.
    • Supervise staff and delegate tasks to employees.
    • Communicate with other departments, such as the financial department to establish budgets, HR department to hire new workers, and the Logistics department to ensure the delivery of products.
    • Control and supervision of machinery and equipment in an efficient and correct manner.
    • Coordination with the Maintenance Manager and supervise daily/weekly/monthly maintenance programs.
    • Documentation and analysis of downtime and fault hours.
    • Full interdepartmental cooperation between the armor and transportation, including transfer of current information, fault analysis, coordination of material flow between departments, transfer of personnel according to production needs in coordination with VP Operations

    QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or engineering – must
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience in management and manufacturing
    • Proven technical competencies in manufacturing (e.g. technical drawings, blueprints, CAD/CAM)
    • Strong communication and organizational skills
    • Excellent team building, leading and interpersonal skills
    • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage cross-functional team members
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and all application, primarily Excel and other industry software
    • Experience with ERP systems – must
    • Experience with following and enforcing procedures
    • Proven ability to manage people
    • Experience with similar roles managing similar size teams

    Physical Demands

    • This is largely a sedentary role; however, work requires some physical strain such as long periods of standing and walking in production facility and lifting moderately heavy items such as test equipment kits and product cases. Other physical demands include crouching and reaching.
