NEEDED: Project Engineer
LOCATION: COLUMBUS CIVIC CENTER 400 4th St, Columbus, GA 31901
HOURS: As Needed/ Event Driven, 7 days a week, Monday-Sunday, 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedules and presides at design development project meetings to assist with planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Prepares or reviews contract plans and specifications for selected construction projects.
- Works with architects and engineers outside of local government to develop construction plans and specifications.
- Finalizes project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Assists in the selection of architectural and engineering firms.
- Assists design team with the selection of building components and mechanical systems.
- Formats and prepares construction bid documents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Compiles and submits reimbursement requests and project closeout documentation to state and federal agencies.
- Reviews certified payroll and DBE reports.
- Coordinates with other City Departments on various projects.
- Assists purchasing department with bid letting and opening.
- Oversees construction and performs construction administration duties.
- Approves contract changes and payments to contractors.
- Conducts periodic inspections, resolves problems or disputes related to construction projects; conducts final inspections.
- Reviews and approves commercial plans submitted for site development permits, minor land disturbances, or residential development permits.
- Provides technical support and guidance to engineers, inspectors, and contractors in the inspection of commercial development projects.
- Maintains the pavement management system inventory database; analyzes and provides candidate lists for resurfacing projects.
- Responds to public inquiries and provides information in regard to discharge problems and other issues.
- Maintains current flood plain maps.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the accepted principles and practices of civil engineering.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of flood plain management.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of building construction.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques of construction design and specification development. Skills in construction project management techniques.
- Skills in problem solving and decision making.
- Skills in operating standard office equipment including work-related computer applications. Skills in oral and written communication.
Educational and Training Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree of Architecture or Building Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field is required.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
- Occasionally lifts light objects and climbs ladders.
Work Environment:
- Work is typically performed in an office or in the field.
- Work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather, and may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
