Based in the Midwest, the Professional Engineers at Orion Engineers, LLC provide comprehensive consulting, engineering, design, and analysis for a diverse market base nationwide. Orion Engineers, LLC is seeking a Project Engineer – Transportation to assist our team in delivering engineering services on existing projects and pursue new opportunities. As a Project Engineer at Orion Engineers, you will have the opportunity to continue to hone your technical skills while gaining broad exposure to project accounting, client service, marketing, and product and business development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Director of Transportation Engineering, a Transportation Project Engineer will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or the development of detailed plans and specifications are recommended. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects. Activities will vary and can include:
Analyzes information and data to perform routine design
Receives instructions from the Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers regarding the expected general results.
Research design options and document
Responsible as a member of the design team for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
Researches code
Prepares environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project
Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in the project schedule, scope or additional
Assist or participate in preparation of project proposals and other business development
May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis on highway design, traffic and transportation.
Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure for the State of Illinois required.
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical.
7+ years progressively responsible experience as a Transportation Engineer or similar.
Demonstrate familiarity with ISTHA/IDOT policies, roadway design and plan preparation, and construction.
Must have experience with MicroStation design.
Experience with Geopak SS4/3D experience with modeling, cross sections and SUDA a plus.
Demonstrated experience in successful project management, client interaction, and staff development.
Business development and marketing experience including writing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets for projected work.
Valid driver’s license required.
