The VP, SBA Business Development Officer will serve as a strategic leader, bridging these gaps to empower veteran-owned businesses to thrive. This role is central to advancing First Command Bank’s mission by building robust partnerships, delivering tailored SBA loan solutions, and fostering long-term client relationships that reflect our unwavering dedication to the military community.

What will you be doing?
Business Development & Relationship Building
- Serve as the bank’s primary ambassador to veteran-focused organizations such as VBOCs, SBDCs, SCORE, SBA District Offices, and other referral sources to generate quality SBA loan leads.
- Cultivate partnerships with accountants, and other professionals to uncover new SBA loan opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including District Advisors and Field Force teams, to drive referrals and deepen client relationships.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Prepare complete and accurate loan proposals, ensuring compliance with SBA guidelines, bank policies, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain detailed records of business development activities, loan pipelines, and call reports to measure progress toward goals.
- Stay informed of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting SBA lending and veteran-owned businesses.
Performance & Growth
- Achieve and exceed business development targets while contributing to the growth of the SBA program.
- Partner with the VP, SBA Program Director to identify and implement strategic initiatives to expand First Command Bank’s market presence serving veteran-owned businesses.
Client Engagement & Exceptional Service
- Deliver world-class service by guiding clients through the SBA loan application process, addressing inquiries, and providing ongoing support.
- Act as a trusted advisor, identifying broader financial needs and share-of-wallet opportunities to deepen client relationships.
SBA Loan Origination & Structuring
- Proactively identify, structure, and originate SBA 7(a) and SBA Express loans to meet client needs.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of client financial statements, creditworthiness, and business plans to propose tailored loan solutions.
- Collaborate with internal underwriting and credit teams to ensure efficient and accurate loan processing.
What skills/qualifications do you need?
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field.
- Master’s Degree or Graduate School of Banking preferred.
- Formal credit training preferred.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in SBA lending, business development, or commercial lending.
- Proven success in originating and structuring SBA 7(a) and SBA Express loans.
- Strong understanding of SBA guidelines, credit analysis, and loan packaging.
- Experience working with or within veteran-focused organizations or the military community.
- Familiarity with federal contracting and certifications for veteran-owned businesses (e.g., VOSB, SDVOSB).
- Military experience and background preferred.

- Exceptional networking and relationship-building skills, with a proven ability to cultivate partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical abilities and a client-first approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Salesforce.com, loan origination software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
