Quality Engineer

SUMMARY
As a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that our Aerospace and Defense products along with production methods and systems meet or exceed customer expectations while complying with regulatory requirements. Responsible for the entire range of quality assurance, environment and health and safety activities in the organizational unit. Formulates and develops program design, policies and procedures. Issues formal product process specifications and confers with other top management, customers and other representatives in the planning, scheduling, coordinating and directing of the quality assurance program in conformance with customer requirements, engineering specifications, government regulations and production schedules.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Supervise PEER Audit Manager and NDT Manager for compliance, performance and Continual Improvement (CI) in operations and non-destructive testing (NDT) processes.
- Reduction of cost of poor quality (cost structure) through proactive risk mitigation, inspection rationalization and reduction of internal and external failures.
- Review routers, procedures, specifications, drawings and other instructions for completeness and instructions to perform operation.
- In addition, candidate will be required to meet with customer QA representatives and select customer Leadership.
- Frequent travel is required. (20 -35%). Candidate will be required to travel to assigned metal finishing plants and customer locations – domestic and international.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will need to remain flexible as schedule changes may occur with multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Develop and implement a Business Management System that ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including AS9100, ISO 9001 and NADCAP, AQMD, LA Sanitation, CUPA,OSHA.
- Manage the Quality/ Environment budget to ensure that resources are allocated appropriately and all companies/department expenses are within budget
- Identify and implement KPIs needed to manage and improve the Business Management System
- Coordinate and ensure compliance with EHS policies and procedures. From conducting training to leading improvement initiatives, your passion for environmental health and safety will make a significant impact.
- Work alongside facility supervisors and leads, Quality Manager, Maintenance manager and shop floor crew to ensure that all on-site facility job specific and employee EHS training is being conducted, documented, and tracked on an annual and as-needed basis; may develop training on environmental health and safety regulations and subjects.
- Work with outside organizations conducting safety, health, environmental, fire, and physical security audits of the facility
- Administers EHS plans and programs, i.e., Emergency Action Plan, HAZWOPER Plan, Fire Prevention, Lock Out/Tag Out Plan, Respiratory Protection Plan
- Oversee the reporting, investigation, and documentation of all safety or EHS related concerns
- Attend management meetings and lead EHS meetings to communicate any EHS matters
- Perform inspections, hazard assessments, and audits to ensure compliance and report findings to the site and corporate team
- Responsible for the Safety Committee
- On-call at all times to respond to EHS related issues
- Conduct accident investigations to determine thorough root cause and produce and maintain necessary documentation.
- Engage all employees to take ownership of EHS, conduct safety audits, safety committee meetings, ergonomic evaluations and emergency supply inspections.
- Prepare and file all reports required by permits and regulatory agencies.
- Track hazardous waste, their disposal and maintain documentation including account billings.
- Perform weekly checks for proper storage, labeling, disposal of hazardous waste and materials and maintain inspection log sheets.
- Maintain current chemical inventory and approve new chemicals to the facility.
- Perform other duties as required by Management.
Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- A background with Space, Aerospace or Defense products and organizations is preferred.
- Working knowledge of AS9100.
- At least 2 years of experience leading a team in quality environmental management, with a proven track record of improving quality and customer satisfaction.
- Excellent working knowledge and understanding of applicable environmental health & safety rules, laws and codes including CFR’s, CCR's, EPA, SCAQMD, DOT, RCRA and OSHA/CALOSHA. Knowledge of Environmental Permits: CUPA, RCRA, Sanitation District Permits, South Coast AQMD, Water Boards, Los Angeles Department of Public Works,
- Previous experience with Epicor software
- Experience with all aspects of blueprints including geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T)
- Must have experience with masking and working with high strength steel in the electroplating process.
- Must have knowledge on the bake out process for plating.
- Familiar with testing codes and standards for aerospace industry
- Experience in managing tank line operations and chemical processes within the aerospace industry
- Experience with Boeing material and process specifications
- Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols related to chemical handling and storage
- Experience with quality tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Statistical Process Control.
- Oversight the primary responsible for internal/external audits, corrective actions and the associated follow-up actions.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the QA and waste treatment team to ensure that all employees are trained and equipped to perform their roles effectively
- Directly supervises employees in the Quality Assurance/ Waste management Department in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Submit reports, make recommendations, and apply for permits to ensure compliance with state and federal agencies.
- Responsible for all Workers’ Compensation actions including treatment, investigation, documentation
- Identify and investigate methods to reduce hazardous waste by alternative manufacturing, materials,processes and recycling opportunities; Implement recommended changes. Obtain and renew all required EHS related permits.
- Work with stakeholders in the organization during space planning, building expansions and/or other changes in facilities or work areas to ensure EHS requirements and regulations are met. Assist in instructing departmental personnel on the proper handling of chemicals, GHS labeling and disposal of hazardous waste. drug/alcohol testing, any follow-up
