FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: FMI is seeking a Quality Inspector! In this role, you will assure consistent quality of production by performing quality control inspections, checks, and tests during the manufacturing of products from receipt of materials to final inspection of parts. You will also inspect materials, parts, and products at different stages of production and record observations and make recommendations for improving processes.
** Job Responsibilities:**
- Perform inspection of incoming materials, in-process parts, and completed parts per procedures. This may include verification that manufacturing steps and documentation were performed appropriately, visual and dimensional inspection, functional inspection, and weighing of parts
- Perform calculations, as required, by the inspection report applying proper rounding and significant digits
- Complete standard inspection reports and additional reports, as required
- Report non-conformances and complete required documentation
- Suggest updates to the system and assist with updating related documents
- Adhere to company and department policies, procedures, and standards
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures
**** ** What we need from you:**
- 1-2 years related experience and/or training in Quality Inspection of technical components
- Prior work at sites with ISO 9001/AS9100 certifications
- Versatile in use of various precision tool inspection techniques
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines, overtime and handle multiple/detail-oriented tasks
- Able to complete responsibilities with a sense of urgency and with a professional and quality manner
- Ability to troubleshoot and strong problem solving skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide Lean improvement initiatives
** Preferred:**
- Associates degree (AS) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Ability to read, understand, and interpret provided blueprints
- Proficiency with Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt
- Use of Coordinated Measurement Machine (CMM)
- Machining knowledge or background- general course or instruction in machining
