Summary - Manufacturing/Machining Quoter/Estimator: In this role you will spend most of your time analyzing customer RFQs and producing competitive quotes for new production runs, while still overseeing key material purchases needed to win and launch those jobs. The ability to use ERP systems to perform these functions effectively and efficiently is essential to success in this role.
Responsibility Summary - Manufacturing/Machining Quoter/Estimator:
- Interpret prints, 3-D models, and specifications to define manufacturing routings, cycle times, and outside services.
- Calculate material yields, machine & labor hours, setup times, programming, tooling, and quality costs.
- Build item masters / routings and generate formal quotations in the ERP quoting module.
- Clarify technical questions with customers, engineering, and shop leads; suggest manufacturability or cost-saving changes.
- Present pricing strategies that meet margin targets while staying competitive in prototype, short-run, and long-run production.
- Convert awarded quotes to purchase requisitions and POs for raw material, tooling, and subcontract processes.
- Negotiate price, lead-time, and payment terms; track on-time delivery, expedite as required.
- Maintain accurate cost and vendor data in the ERP system to tighten future quoting assumptions.
Qualification Summary - Manufacturing/Machining Quoter/Estimator:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, mechanical tech, supply-chain, or comparable experience.
- 3+ years estimating or quoting within a CNC machining / metal-fab environment.
- Proven ability to read GD&T prints and model files; understanding of machining speeds & feeds.
- Proficiency in the use of manufacturing ERP/MRP systems
- Solid Microsoft Excel skills for cost modeling and what-if scenarios.
- Strong negotiation and vendor-management skills; familiarity with lean inventory concepts a plus.
