    JOB SUMMARY

    Program computer numerical control (CNC) and set up and operate horizontal or vertical CNC machining center.

    GENERAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

    • High school diploma or GED required.

    • 4yrs Minimum experience setting up and operation of CNC Lathe or CNC Mill

    • Programming experience a plus

    • Adherence to personal protection requirements (safety glasses, etc.)

    • Adherence to company general policies and quality procedures.

    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

    SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS

    Following are some of the principal job functions. However, other duties and activities may be required in performance of this job:

    • Work from part prints and process sheets to plan sequence of operations.

    • Select proper work holding jigs, fixtures and other devices.

    • Select proper cutting, knurling, burnishing and other tooling.

    • Determine proper speeds and feeds and set machine accordingly.

    • Be able to make normal machine shop mathematical calculations and use shop tables and data.

    • Use precision measuring equipment and fixed and adjustable gauging equipment.

    • Load and unload machine for each production cycle.

    • Make on-going machine adjustments to hold tolerance, based on tool wear, machine drift or part variability.

    • Measure parts produced to maintain required quality and maintain required quality recordings.

    • Perform basic machine maintenance, e.g.; oils and lubes, machine wear adjustments, replace wear items such as V-belts, etc.

    • Clean machine of chips, splashed oil and other debris at end of shift or when a machine job is finished during shift.

    • Set up and operate one or several CNC (computer numerical control) machines. A CNC Operator performs all the job functions of a production machinist and also programs CNC Machines. The CNC duties involve:

    • Working from process sheet, part print or program steps supplied by Engineering, write the program to machine a workpiece and enter this program into the machine control.

    • Verify the newly prepared program will properly machine the workpiece, prior to running production.

    • Programming involves determining dimensional coordinates, sequence of operations, tools to be used, tool and workpiece fixtures required, machine speeds and feeds and using the proper codes and protocol, enter this program into the machine control.

    PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with no restrictions.

    • Healthy wrist-arm motion – repetitive motion of arms and shoulders.

    • Ability to work with coolants, oils, and raw materials (various metals) without allergic reactions.

    • Good hand/eye coordination.

    • Ability to read process sheets and parts prints.

    • Flexibility to work at various machine stations as production mix changes.

    • Ability to use precision measuring equipment.

    • Most machine jobs are standing jobs.

    • Vision, with or without correction, must be adequate to perform the required job functions.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
