Candidates should be licensed in California or awaiting admission to the California State Bar. Essential Job Functions · Utilize knowledge of the law and experience to provide effective and accurate legal advice on pertinent legal matters (including but not limited to specific matters listed herein). · Perform job duties and responsibilities on full-time basis with regular and reliable in-person attendance. · Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all employees and professional contacts, with an emphasis on firm interests. · Instruct and supervise paralegals and support staff as necessary. · Independently and effectively prioritize and successfully accomplish multiple tasks within appropriate timeframes. · Assume responsibility for cases at all levels of complexity and develop strategies leading to efficient resolution of cases. · Negotiate and settle cases-in-chief as well as post judgment accounts. · Effectively and timely respond to direction/instruction from supervisors, peers, subordinates, clients, and management. · Satisfy MCLE requirements on an ongoing basis. · Other duties as assigned. Qualifications · Education level: Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-approved law school, required. Must have and be able to maintain a current law license and good standing with the State Bar of California or be waiting for admission to the State Bar of California. · Experience level: Preferred civil ligation experience, including law and motion practice, taking/defending depositions, legal research and writing, and trial experience, preferably in the areas of contracts and insurance/insurance defense litigation, but not required. · Excellent writing, analytical, oral advocacy skills required. · Knowledgeable about law, rules, decisions, practices, and California and Federal civil procedure. · Skilled in legal research. · Ability to project a professional demeanor and appearance. · Ability to communicate clearly, persuasively, and effectively in both verbal and written format. · Ability to work collaboratively in a positive manner with co-workers and others outside the firm. · Ability to take initiative in learning new concepts, seeking additional information, and asking questions of co-workers when uncertain. · Ability to understand and conform to California professional rules of conduct. · Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks in a manner that enables timely completion. · Ability to utilize MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other computer software programs in an efficient manner, and to search for help in the use of such programs independently via the internet. Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands · Must be able to work in a seated or standing position, for periods up to and exceeding 8.0 hours per day. · Extensive use of a mouse and keyboard, and calculator. · Occasional lifting up to 5-10 pounds. · Extended viewing of a computer screen. · Extensive use of a telephone. · Occasional travel via automobile, train, or airplane.
