  • Responsibilities

    As a Billing Specialist you will use your skills to help pioneer a new model of Durable Medical Equipment care delivery. The ideal candidate for this role will be motivated to leverage their medical billing skills in this new intersection of digital health and patient care.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure tasks and high priority tasks are completed in a timely manner
    • Assist team members with questions, escalations, and more complicated issues; provide training and support to less experienced team members 
    • Contribute to a conducive working environment for team members, remove obstacles and pursue solutions to challenges as they arise
    • Identify opportunities for improvement and suggest specific improvements to leadership 
    • Frequently access customer EMRs for patient balance entries and payment posting 
    • Ability to speak with patients with confidence and knowledge to answer their billing questions 
    • Accurately and efficiently handle claims from submission to close, including:
    • Accurately submit HCFA claims using claims management software
    • Interpret and post EOBs
    • Manage patient return and voluntary payor refunds
    • Achieve maximum reimbursement for services provided 
    • Generate and submit appeal packets with proof of delivery, chart notes, and more
    • Ability to lead out on special projects or research

    • Work autonomously in a hybrid role - partially remote and partially in office.

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

    • Can apply billing experience to a non-traditional medical billing environment
    • Demonstrates emerging leadership skills as individual contributor or team lead
    • Adaptable; our company and industry are changing rapidly
    • Can drive continuous improvement to deliver stronger results for customers
    • Warm and friendly with patients; strong communication skills and deep patient empathy
    • Self-starter, can work autonomously

    • Confident using software, task management systems like Asana

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • High school diploma or GED and completion of medical billing program
    • 5-7 years experience in billing, DME billing experience preferred
    • Patient billing customer service experience preferred 
    • Supervisory experience preferred

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    This position requires work to be performed in person and onsite in the Asheville, NC office.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
    • Answer multiple emails and phone calls per day 
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
    • Move throughout the office or workspace when needed
