POSITION PROFILE
Perform a frontline leadership role in support of manufacturing supervisor and associates in assigned work area; supervise, plan, coordinate and control of all aspects of production, associate management and maintenance. Ensure that all products are produced safely, efficiently and that they are complete, correct and on time. Form, lead and implement associate involvement and other associate participation endeavors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MAINTAIN AND ENFORCE A SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT: Lead all aspects of the Safety program within the department, Ensure associate compliance through Safety training, communication of rules and guidelines and motivational activities, in coordination with EHS department. Participate in and/or leads Safety Committees or teams, and ensures safety audits are performed and acted upon within their assigned work area. Promote and enforce safe work behaviors throughout the site.
MAKE DECISIONS AND TAKE ACTION: Maintain production schedules and on-time performance. Monitor Quality issues and implement process changes to correct. Assist in manpower planning. Take necessary action for personnel training. Maintain work area to meet standards of excellence. Ensure that all employees are properly trained in their jobs. Ensure all records (Training, inspection, PM, etc…) are in place and complete. Hold associates accountable for their performance and behavior within the department up to and including verbal warning level.
ANALYZE AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommend changes in manufacturing methods to improve productivity. Analyze and recommend changes and new procedures for assembly. Recommend changes to Production Control for improving schedule performance. Recommend changes in work assignments for load leveling. Recommend changes in tooling to take advantage of new technology. Recommend changes to Quality Control Standards for improvement of product.
MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND PEOPLE: Participate in short-term scheduling with Production Control. Participate with Systems Planning and Engineering in load planning to provide assembly time requirements or estimates. Interface with Engineering and drafting to resolve problems encountered in manufacture of product. Participate with Production Control in resolving steps to pursue in stock-out situations. Inspect equipment and request maintenance as required. Initiate request for new tools or equipment, as needed. Keep associates informed as to changes in operations, wages, benefits, policies, etc. Evaluate and handle associates relations at section level; encourage associates to use their abilities fully to improve self and company.
CHAMPIONS LEAN MANUFACTURING PRINCIPLES: Assures that Lean Manufacturing principles are expanded and adhered to throughout Knoll. Assures utilization of appropriate documentation and visual aids (standardized work, combination tables, kanban tickets, heijunka tags, etc.).
ASSISTS IN PROGRAM LAUNCHES. Coordinates with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production to assure process capability, generic equipment design, and optimum work balancing ensured prior to program launches.
ASSURES INTEGRITY OF MANUFACTURING PROCESSES. Assures the Integrity of manufacturing processes is maintained and improved after program launch by developing process checks/controls, and a method to trigger a response when the checks/controls indicate a deviation from established parameters.
PARTICIPATES AS A MEMBER OF THE MANUFACTURING TEAM. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Technical Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas of lack of cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues effecting cohesiveness. Actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS NECESSARY IN SUPPORT OF BUSINESS OBJECTIVES. This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Assistant Manufacturing Supervisor within the assigned area in collaboration with the Manufacturing Supervisor. It is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function. Required Skills
Bachelor of Science or BA or Associates
Degree or equivalent combination of experience and post-secondary training or education.
Required Experience
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE: One to three years of manufacturing experience preferred. Additional background in factory operations helpful.
TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE: Verbal and written communication skills. Should possess problem solving skills and facilitate group meetings.
Knowledge of manufacturing organization, controls and procedures.
Knowledge of fundamental Safety principles for an industrial work environment.
Must have experience with team building, process improvement, conflict resolution and motivating people.
Skilled in the use of ERP systems, DayForce, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Lean manufacturing knowledge & implementation.
Knowledge of ISO 14001/9001 required.
Strong skills in the following areas:
Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
