We are seeking a Systems Engineer who is a self-starter with excellent technical and research skills who will support to the Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) 5G NextGen program with expertise in in the areas of software engineering, networking, and advanced database management.

The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, management, scientific and engineering expertise for studying, researching, planning, developing, testing, and evaluating 5G systems and networks architectures, 5G core technologies, 5G Interoperability, 5G slicing, 5G cyber security technologies, 5G telemedicine technologies and 5G learning systems. The Principal Systems Engineer provides technical leadership across the entire spectrum of research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) for all JBSA 5G NextGen programs and projects, including strategic technology planning for 5G MILCOM and 5G in telemedicine and training.

The Systems Engineer conducts strategic planning for 5G RDT&E needs and projects for core, security, C-RAN, telemedicine, Ue, and training systems. The Systems Engineer may represent JBSA in all technical aspects associated with 5G to Department of Defense (DoD) leadership, existing and future military users and developers, national laboratories and other Government agencies, research institutes and universities, and industry.  Working with the JBSA 5G Principal Investigators and JBSA 5G Executive Program Manager, the Principal Systems Engineer establishes strategic partnerships as required to create effective RDT&E and prototype projects that lead to successful research and development outcomes.  The Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for technical documentation associated with JBSA 5G RDT&E that is required for successful execution and representation of the JBSA 5G programs. 

Required Skills

• Master’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with a software engineering and networking background
• Experience in leading research as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Project Research Lead
• US citizenship with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance

Required Experience

• Experience collaborating with government, industry, academic, and research institutions
• 5+ Years of related scientific research experience
• Technical writing and report generation experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering; Computer Science or related fields of study
• Experience meeting with customers to define requirements, review progress, review deliverables, and define future milestones

• Master’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with a software engineering and networking background
• Experience in leading research as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Project Research Lead
• US citizenship with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance
