Job Overview
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a Radiographic Technologist to join the Department of Radiology at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The successful candidate will perform acute care diagnostic imaging, ensuring accurate and timely services in support of patient care.
General Tasks
Productivity: Maintain a level of productivity comparable to other professionals performing similar services.
Peer Review and Improvement: Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
Aseptic Techniques: Comply with infection control guidelines, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious waste.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including radiation safety, to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
Emergency Response: Perform efficiently in emergency situations, following established protocols.
Legal and Ethical Awareness: Apply an understanding of legal issues in all aspects of patient care.
Specific Tasks
Diagnostic Imaging: Perform acute care diagnostic studies, including imaging of extremities, chest, abdomen, and head. Ensure correct positioning and technical adjustments for each examination.
Patient Interaction: Receive patients, explain procedures, and provide care that minimizes anxiety. Confirm that any required patient preparation has been completed.
Quality Control: Conduct routine quality control checks on imaging equipment, recognize equipment errors, and notify appropriate personnel. Log all imaging activities in the MHS Genesis system.
Documentation: Ensure that all images are accurately logged and sent to the radiologist for interpretation via PACS. Assist in maintaining daily logs and submitting data for monthly reports.
Research and Development: Contribute to the development of new techniques for diagnostic imaging and perform emergent examinations as required.
Radiation Safety: Adhere to all radiation safety protocols and participate in the maintenance of records for a hospital-based radiation safety program.

Duty Hours:
Monday – Friday [Days] 0700-1530 (3 Technologists)
Monday – Friday [Days] 1100 – 1930 (2 Technologists)
Saturday & Sunday [Days] 0700-1530 (2 Technologists)
Sunday through Saturday [Evenings] 1500-2330 (2 Technologists)
Sunday through Saturday [Nights] 2300-0730 (1 Technologist)
On-Call Hours: N/A
Overage Hours: N/A
Qualifications
Education: Graduate from an ARRT Accredited program.
Certification: Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Experience: At least one year of full-time experience as a diagnostic radiologic technologist within the last two years, including experience with digital imaging.
Licensure/Registration: Active membership in the ARRT-R registry.
References: Provide two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to your clinical skills. One must be from a practicing radiologist who has observed and evaluated your work.

The primary site of services is the Department of Radiology and Radiation Oncology at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA, with potential assignments at associated Branch Medical Clinics and Tricare Prime Clinics within a 40-mile commuting radius. Notification will be provided 48 hours prior to reassignment.
