    TM Track Machines is NOW HIRING experienced welders who are interested in learning to modify and repair railcars and supporting the exciting railroad industry. We are looking for hard-working and dependable candidates who work well with a team.

    Qualified candidates must have welding experience, including the ability to pass 2G, 3G, and 4G SMAW and FCAW weld tests within your first 90 days of employment. Candidates must be able to read and work from drawings and be able to identify and use the appropriate welding equipment for a given task.

    4 day work week, Monday through Friday! Paid every Friday!

    Position Description

    The Welder & Fabricator is responsible for welding projects for the Car Shop at TM Track Machines. They work with the Railcar Carmen in the modification and repair of railcars. This individual will be responsible for identifying and using the appropriate welding equipment to complete each task. They must inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and performs minor maintenance to equipment. The Welder & Fabricator ensures all company guidelines are met and all safety rules are followed when performing duties. Working safely and maintaining a safe work area are top priorities for this position.

    Major Areas of Responsibility

    • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
    • Weld separately or in combination, carbon steel and other alloys
    • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers; lay out pieces to be welded according to blueprints, schematics, or work orders
    • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
    • Recognize, set up, and operate hand/power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment; use welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair metal/material
    • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals
    • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
    • Effectively use the CAC-A (air carbon arc gouging) as well as oxy-fuel torch and plasma arc torch for thermal cutting operations
    • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications; ensure AAR, TM Track Machines, and customer quality standards are met
    • Coordinate and complete assigned repairs in an efficient manner and within the assigned timeframe
    • Notify management of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of assigned tasks
    • Operate equipment safely, utilizing safe work habits; comply with all safety and environmental health policies
    • Practice proper housekeeping by ensuring a clean work area

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum of 3 years of welding experience or hold current weld certifications
    • Must have the ability to pass 2G, 3G, and 4G SMAW and FCAW weld tests within first 90 days of employment
    • Able to read and work from drawings including weld symbols
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
    • Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality
    • Must be able to work well with other employees
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and write in English
    • Perform/prioritize multiple tasks with attention to details
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions including basic blue prints and schematics

    Work Requirements

    • Ability to work in conditions that include loud noise, fumes, dirt, and heavy equipment in motion
    • Work in hot and cold environment, in and out of the weather; work safely around heavy equipment and on top of and under railcars, as well as around railroad tracks
    • Able to use a cutting torch in all positions without damage to adjoining parts
    • Ability to transverse and work on uneven surfaces
    • Ability to distinguish auditory signals with training
    • Ability to change easily from one task to another (varying in nature) and deal with competing demands
    • Ability to work in tight spaces, under railcars, track equipment, locomotives, vehicles, etc.
    • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: steel toe boots, eye protection, ear plus, gloves, hot work PPE, and fall protection
    • Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: lifting (up to 60lbs), sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shoulders
