Job Description

DeAngelo Contracting Services (DCS) is looking for a motivated and skilled Railroad Off-Track Spray Technician with a strong work ethic, excellent attitude, mechanical aptitude, and a strong commitment to safety. This role involves spraying and/or cutting railroad crossings to specifications, as well as spraying off-track areas within railroad yards around material piles, buildings, access roads, and other locations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Fill truck with water/chemical mixture.
• Perform minor weed eating using an industrial weed eater and occasional chainsaw work (minimum 16” bar), about 25% of the time each day.
• Pull out and return 300-500 feet of hose multiple times to spray the length of crossings; typically, this is done 32 times per day.
• Spray 8 to 10 railroad crossings daily.
• Drive the truck and spray 8 to 10 crossings each day.
• Call MTM for the daily job briefing.
• Complete required paperwork at the end of each day.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills:

• Basic knowledge of weed, grass, and brush species.
• In-depth understanding of the chemicals used, their effects, and associated safety protocols.
• Basic knowledge of application methods and equipment.
• Understanding of calibration and spray patterns.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

• A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

EXPERIENCE:

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have at least 5 years of clean driving experience.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test, DOT physical, and background check to work on railroad property.
• Willingness to travel away from home for up to 4-6 weeks (hotel accommodations are provided).
• Regular workdays are typically 10 hours, but you must be available to work up to 12 hours when needed.
• Occasional weekend, night, or holiday shifts may be required.
• Commercial Pesticide Applicators license preferred.
• Ability to perform physical tasks in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
• Work hours may fluctuate based on weather and workload.
• Spraying is a seasonal task, based on the regional office schedule.
• Must adhere to the company's drug and alcohol policy.

TRAINING:

• DeAngelo Contracting Services offers paid training to help employees succeed in their roles. Training includes:
  • Identifying various weed, grass, and brush species.
  • Understanding which chemicals effectively control specific plant species.
  • Operating application equipment safely.
  • Learning various application methods used in the field.
  • Maintaining equipment properly.
  • Basic computer skills are required.

Pay rate: $18.00-20.00/ per hour
