General Statement of Duties:
This position is responsible for managing Aquatic Facilities for the Montrose Rec District. This position oversees the operation, programming, staffing, ensuring safety, financial duties, facility cleaning, and minor maintenance. Interacting with patrons and addressing patrons concerns.
Supervision Receives: Reports directly to the Recreation Services Superintendent.
Supervision Exercised: Directly supervises the Aquatics Leader and all aquatic PT employees.
Essential Duties:
The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.
Management/Programming:
Provide administrative oversight for the Aquatic Facilities.
Manages all programs areas including swim lessons, water exercise classes, special events, and other aquatic programs.
Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines aquatic employees.
Provides staff orientation and training to enhance aquatic employees’ performance.
Coordinates with outside groups such as; swim teams, scuba diving, and canoeing groups for facility usage.
Oversees the daily cleaning and care of program equipment.
Keeps abreast of current trends in the aquatic industry.
Training/Safety:
Responsible for reviewing and completing incident/accident forms and submitting form to Human Resources.
Provides safety training for MRD Full-time and Core employees on a regular basis.
Provides monthly in-service training for all aquatic employees.
Maintains their own certifications and ensures that aquatic employees are properly certified.
Monitors and ensures patrons and aquatic employees’ health, fitness, and safety.
Complies with health code standards and prepares Aquatic Facilities for inspection.
Responsible for Aquatic Facilities’ safety and maintenance by coordinating with the Maintenance and Custodial departments.
Administration:
Implements policies and procedures including operations and emergency procedures for all MRD employees.
Establishes and enforces MRD policies and procedures relating to aquatic programs and Aquatic Facilities.
Maintains operational paperwork including attendance reports, chemical testing, employee certifications, swim lesson records, and financial reporting records.
Responsible for monitoring aquatic employees’ timecards and submitting payroll to Human Resources.
Assists in the development of marketing and promotional themes and strategies to promote aquatic programs, and safety courses for MRD’s Activity Guide.
Assists in employee enhancement committees created by the MRD Board of Director’s
Budget:
Responsible for purchasing and inventorying of Aquatic Facilities’ program supplies and merchandise.
Develops, monitors, and projects budget requests associated with the operations and programming of the Aquatic Facilities.
Ensures that purchases fall within the allotted budget.
Generates revenue by applying for, writing, and submitting grant proposals.
Position Qualifications: Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, physical education, management, marketing, public administration.
A minimum of four (4) years supervising and running aquatics facility or programs.

A combination of education and experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
License and Certification:
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification or equivalent.
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification or equivalent.
Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent.
Current Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certification.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Work Environment:
Office environment with indoor and outdoor Aquatic Facilities, which includes travel from facility-to-facility.
Aquatic Facilities include high temperatures, humidity, and/or seasonal weather variation.
Hours will include seasonal variations, with evening, weekend, and holiday hours possible.
Extensive public contact.
Required to utilize their personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
Required to have a cell phone with part of the monthly service cost provided.
Physical Condition: Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for swimming, walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time. This position may require moderate lifting.
