JOB PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Recreation and Communications Director, the Recreation Specialist plans, coordinates, and schedules year-round recreation and leisure services programs for the West Fargo Park District.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordination and supervision of programming, which will include (but not limited to):
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate seasonal employees as directed by the Recreation and Communications Director.
Supervision of personnel in assigned programs/facilities as assigned. Responsible for preparing and maintaining timecards.
Ability to plan, organize, supervise and evaluate the work of others.
Assist in planning, supervising, coordinating and evaluating programs and or facilities as assigned.
Implement, maintain and follow personnel policies and procedures that are outlined in the West Fargo Park District Risk Management Manual as they relate to seasonal employees.
Assist the Recreation Director and Facility Supervisor to ensure that all equipment is provided, taken care of and maintained to run quality programs. Prepare inventories and lists of materials, supplies and equipment needed for programs.
Assist in planning, supervising, coordinating and evaluating recreation programs as assigned.
Assist in developing budgets, schedules, reports, fees and season brochures as assigned.
Develop positive relationships with individuals and groups utilizing parks and facilities within the policies, procedures and guidelines of the District.
Prepare information for annual reports, District semi-annual activity guide publications submitted to the Marketing Specialist according to schedules set for development, production and distribution.
Assist customers and answer incoming calls to the West Fargo Park District.
Provide as back up support for West Fargo Park District front desk and the Rustad Recreation Center front desk as needed.
Update content and maintain online software programs such as Occasion and ActiveNet.
Works Special Events and provides program support throughout the year as assigned.
Follow, support and uphold the West Fargo Park Districts Standards and Expectations for Employee Excellence.
Perform related work as apparent or required.
GENERAL DAILY DUTIES:
Researching current trends and standards to stay relevant.
Budgeting for programs and events.
Purchasing supplies and equipment for program needs.
Hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and report payroll of part-time staff.
Partnering with local organizations and businesses and securing sponsorships.
Coordinate with Marketing Specialist for program marketing and promotion.
Preparing information for Park District digital and print publications.
Evaluate and measure customer satisfaction and program success.
Programing and league scheduling. Develop and coordinate rosters.
Determine and assign staff scheduling and duties.
Assign facility keys and secure return.
Handle parent and participant disputes and complaints
Hands on teaching/coaching.
Ordering tournament awards.
Organize and maintain inventory.
Position requires working hours of weekdays, nights and weekends.
Secures sponsorships and programming support.
Troubleshooting and problem solving.
Enlist the assistance of other Recreation Specialists and other support staff as needed.
Preparing information for Park District digital and print publications.
Evaluate and measure customer satisfaction and program success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a field related to parks, recreation, and leisure services administration.
An equivalent combination of education and experience (minimum of 3 years full-time professional) may be considered.
General computer knowledge, typing skills, filing and use of other office equipment. Knowledge of (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Active Net) and social media.
Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
Valid driver's license.

2) Adult and Senior Programming
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
This position requires the employee to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to meet frequent deadlines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee may be required to occasionally perform a full range of motion with lifting and or carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
