Job Title: Recreation Therapist
Job Overview: As a Recreation Therapist, you will provide holistic, purposeful interventions tailored to meet the needs, capabilities, and interests of individuals. Your person-centered approach will empower clients, with the support of their team, to identify areas of concern, select beneficial recreation activities, and utilize leisure to enhance their quality of life. Key Responsibilities:
Provide therapeutic recreation sessions in clients' homes and community settings.
Maintain reliable transportation to travel to client locations.
Assess new clients through observation, interviews, and collaboration with clients and their support teams.
Request desired units for therapy services and submit outcomes to case managers and teams.
Set and adjust schedules based on unit allotment, ensuring timely and effective services.
Collect and maintain necessary documentation including ISP, Intake Applications, and Assessments.
Continuously review and maintain current ISP, Quarterly Reports, and stay informed on clients' medical needs and risks.
Write, review, and revise therapeutic outcomes and goals based on client needs and progress.
Make necessary accommodations for individual needs, such as communication, choice-making, and activity schedules.
Document observations, participation, progress, and client reactions after each session, ensuring accurate and timely progress notes.
Track therapy units and adjust schedules to ensure proper usage, preventing overages or underutilization.
Regularly collaborate with clients’ support teams, sharing feedback and updates on therapy progress and concerns.
Maintain CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) certification by engaging in continuing education, conferences, and staying informed about community and therapeutic resources.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field.
Certification as a CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist).
Preferred:
Familiarity with the Individualized Service Plan (ISP) and Behavior Support Plan (BSP) documentation and review processes.
Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities, demonstrating a strong understanding of their needs and abilities.
Ability to work independently, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
