Job Description
The Claims Manager is responsible for receiving, reviewing, investigating and recommending a course of action on all aspects of cargo claims received from customers. Position will also develop and implement necessary aspects of a cargo loss prevention program, and work closely with senior management and insurance carrier.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
- Oversee the day to day operations of the claims department
- Negotiation of claims, secure settlement authority, coordinating claims, processing required paperwork, recommending reserves, reconciliation and reporting duties
- Ensure claims process is followed according to the A/R Collection Process Map. The Claims Manager is to oversee the entire process and hold key team member accountable.
- Coordinate with various departments on handling unique customer requirements involving insurance, shipping, and billing and liability issues.
- Coordinate with external stakeholders, attorneys, investigators, underwriters and others to resolve claims favorable to the company.
- Process freight claims in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations in effect.
- Properly manage claims and serve as a resource to staff on proper handling and decisions in the claims process.
- Focusses on ensuring that claim efforts are always striving to be "best in class."
- Oversees cargo and freight claims process, as well as cargo loss prevention efforts.
- Identifies and eliminates recurring problems through better process, policy, and training.
- Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, and others (internal and external) in a courteous and professional manner to effectively complete assigned tasks and deliver desired outcomes.
- Maintain tight control of what gets paid and how much is paid based directives in effect.
- Works closely with the Director of Financial Operations and actively supports the team goals.
- Leads effective meetings focused on issue resolution, action, and follow up.
- Responsible for a claim\loss prevention process to eliminate claims before they occur through proper handling of freight as well as paperwork.
- Maintain confidentiality of company information
- Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years’ experience claims management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EDUCATION:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Minimum 3 years of involvement with handling freight claims, understanding the transportation and/or logistics industry practices.
- Good knowledge of the LTL industry including handling of freight, loading trailers, and proper documentation.
- Intellectual skills, to include: analytical, problem solving, project management and applicable technical skills, customer service, interpersonal skills, effective oral/verbal communications, listening, written communication and team work.
