    About the Reefer Mechanic Position:

    As a Reefer Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and inspection tasks on refrigerated trailers (reefers) to ensure they are safe, efficient, and roadworthy. Your primary duties will include diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and structural issues, repairing or replacing damaged components, conducting routine inspections, and providing expert recommendations on reefer upkeep. You will work with various reefer types, including Carrier and ThermoKing, using specialized tools and equipment to perform tasks such as compressor replacements, vacuum and charging system repairs, routine maintenance and more. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are key to ensuring that trailers meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.

    The ideal candidate will have experience in reefer repairs, a strong understanding of refrigerator systems, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform on-site diagnostic services, repairs, and maintenance on refrigeration units
    • Verify unit performance by diagnosing faults physically and via downloads
    • Determine unit condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests to identify worn and/or damaged parts
    • Correct system deficiencies by removing, repairing, and adjusting faulty components
    • Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance, installing component and parts upgrades, and controlling erosion
    • Consistently maintain cost by using warranty and evaluating services and repairs.
    • Complete repair orders and enter data at time of repair
    • Exceed customer expectations by respecting customer property and excellent customer service skills
    • Complete repair orders timely and accurately to accomplish departmental objectives and standards
    • Participate in company training and educational opportunities
    • Test and ensure safety standards
    • Keep updated on industry standards
    • Ensure a safe work environment and use proper PPE equipment.

    Qualifications & Skills:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • EPA 608 and 609 certifications preferred
    • Basic computer and keyboard skills
    • Problem-solving skills
    • Mechanical expertise & technical skills
    • Welding and fabrication skills
    • Safety awareness
    • Experience in the trailer/transportation industry preferred.
