    If you are the type of person who likes it when every day is a little different, then read on because the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is seeking a qualified candidate to join our hard-working Reno-Stead Airport team. Stead is the Reno-Tahoe International Airport's “sister airport to the north,” a 5,000-acre facility with all kinds of interesting things going on. Stead supports general aviation services, and is an FAA designated UAS (i.e., drones) test range. The day-to-day role could include everything from plowing snow, to performing construction or maintenance, repairing a roadway, and inspecting the airfield for hazards or debris (well, that actually happens every day). You might also perform repairs on buildings, facilities, and parking lots, work on systems and related equipment, and we might as well include some semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, roofing, painting, mechanical and electrical trade work. Now you're getting the idea…needless to say, the days fly by, the team is awesome, and the work is satisfying. Oh, and one more thing: this position is eligible for a $1000 sign on bonus. ** Sweet!**

    There is one (1) open position. Both internal and external applicants will be considered. Applicants must be available to work all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) 7 days a week - including holidays. To be considered for this position, applicants must indicate they are available for day, swing and night shifts (all three), and must check the appropriate boxes under availability on the RTAA online application. Shift assignments are generally determined by seniority using a Shift Bid System.

    Examples of Duties: This position is in a flexibly staffed class series. The selected individual may be hired at any level within the class series for which the applicant may be qualified.

    Stead Technician I – Performs duties under close supervision and is the entry level in the series.

    • Maintain and repair RTAA facilities, equipment and buildings by performing a variety of semi-skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical repair work in order to meet the goals and objectives of RTAA preventive maintenance program(s).
    • Repair and replace plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, faucets and pipes; clear obstructions from lines.
    • Inspect building facilities to identify building maintenance needs and verify systems function.
    • Perform carpentry work including the construction, installation, remodel and repair of cabinets, partitions, sheetrock, walls, stucco, windows, locks, doors, roofs and foundations; participate in remodeling of facilities; install, maintain and repair a variety of floor coverings such as carpeting, tile and wood.
    • Operate, maintain and repair a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, sewer augers and various hand tools required for carpentry, plumbing and maintenance work.
    • Maintain and repair security gates and fences.
    • Maintain landscaping by cutting and trimming grass, trees and shrubs to ensure that grounds, landscaping and all airport properties present a neat appearance.
    • Minor trouble shooting and repair vehicle and equipment.
    • Custodial work involved in the repair and maintenance of airfield facilities.
    • Monitor and maintain preventive maintenance records and logs.
    • Install, repair and maintain irrigation systems.
    • Participate in snow removal duties as assigned using specialized snow removal equipment and hand tools as necessary.
    • This position may be deemed to be essential personnel as part of RTAA's Emergency Response Team, and may be required to respond to airport incidents as requested/required.
    • Under supervision, assists with pavement, sign and lighting maintenance and repairs.

    Stead Technician II – Performs duties u nder general supervision and is distinguished from the Stead Technician I by partially autonomous performance of a full-range of duties. Performs Stead Technician I duties as required.

    • Perform daily airfield inspections.
    • Repair and maintains the airfield and surrounding areas, in order to meet the goals and objectives of RTAA Preventive Maintenance (PM) program(s).
    • Maintain and repair asphalt and semi-improved roads.
    • Inspect and service airfield lights, signs, AWOS, wind cones, and markings.
    • Assist in painting runways, taxiways, curbs, street and parking facility markings.
    • Clean grounds of wastepaper and debris, picks up trash, empties trash dumpsters; keep airside and landside areas free of hazards and debris and ensures that all airport properties present a neat and clean appearance.
    • Operate light and heavy motorized construction equipment and power tools including snowplows, street sweepers, water trucks, dump trucks, front loaders, motor grader, backhoe, mowers, forklifts and air compressors, jackhammers, pavement sealing equipment; assist in excavating, landscaping and demolition duties.

    Stead Technician III – Performs duties under limited supervision, and is distinguished from the Stead Technician II by performance of the full-range of duties. Performs Stead Technician I and II duties as required.

    • Complete daily, weekly and monthly inspection checklists on airfield and buildings, and maintains records of scheduled inspections and maintenance performed.
    • Formulate NOTAMs and post AWOS tags.
    • Repair and maintain the airfield and surrounding areas, facilities, equipment and buildings by performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, light construction, and mechanical repair work in order to meet the goals and objectives of RTAA Preventive Maintenance (PM) program(s).
    • Lay out marking and striping projects.
    • Serve as perform as Aircraft Emergency Incident Commander.

    Entry Salary : Stead Technician I $21.61 – 24.39/hour; Stead Technician II $22.71 – 25.62/hour; Stead Technician III - $23.86 – 26.92/hour. Opportunity for additional merit-based increases up to a range maximum of $34.28 per hour. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. This is an hourly and overtime eligible position.

    Stead Technician I

    • Education : High School Diploma or equivalent certificate. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
    • Experience : One (1) year of experience in construction, grounds maintenance or outside maintenance work in a commercial or industrial setting.
    • Licensing : A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 12 months from the date of appointment.

    Stead Technician II

    • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent certificate. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
    • Experience: Two (2) years of experience as an RTAA Technician I; OR two (2) years of experience performing the full range of skilled and semi-skilled general maintenance or construction work. Licensing or certification in an applicable trade may qualify in lieu of required experience.
    • Licensing: A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid commercial (CDL) driver's license is required within 12 months from the date of appointment. CDL at time of application preferred.

    Stead Technician III

    • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent certificate. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
    • Experience: Five (5) years of experience as an RTAA Technician II; OR five (5) years of experience performing the full range of skilled and semi-skilled general mainte­nance or construc­tion work.
    • Licensing: A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid commercial (CDL) driver's license is required within 12-months from the date of appointment. CDL at time of application preferred.
