    Position Summary:

    We have an exciting opportunity to join our antimicrobial resistance (AMR) program as a Research Technician. The Research technician will work closely with the program Directors and with the AMR team in a key initiative to transport and process clinical samples (e.g., microbes, blood, swabs, tissues) to support the antimicrobial resistance pathogen biospecimen repository. The successful applicant should be interested in working in a collaborative environment, be able to learn techniques quickly and have good written, verbal, and computer skills.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Carry out a research plan in conjunction with the PIs
    • Secures microbial samples from the hospital clinical microbiology lab and bring them to the research lab.
    • Isolates microbial species form clinical samples and biobank.
    • Proces microbial samples for genomic DNA isolation.
    • Within the predetermined research scope, independently conduct experiments, including but not limited to:
      • basic molecular biology assays: PCR-sequencing, gel electrophoresis, etc
    • Keeps meticulous records of the conduct and outcome of laboratory analyses.
    • Enter data into the AMR database.
    • Assists in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments.
    • Coordinates and conducts the transfer of samples between the program members, as well as scientific and commercial collaborators.
    • Be trained in the safe conduct of their research. As appropriate, training may be required, including but not limited:
      • Responsible Conduct of Laboratory and Human Subjects Research
      • Chemical, Biological, and Radioactive Materials Safety
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Performs routine technical tasks, and assists in the general maintenance of the lab, such as preparation of stock reagents and maintenance of lab supply inventory, and safely categorizing and disposing of hazardous materials

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator). Effective oral and written communication skills required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Hands-on laboratory experience is desired and prior familiarity with microbial culturing will be highly valued. Experience working in a research lab. Ability to lift up to 5 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and samples. A certain amount of daily walking and standing is necessary in carrying out job duties. Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities is required.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
