Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Resident Engineer to oversee complex infrastructure and transportation projects in California. This position will play a critical role in ensuring that construction activities are performed in accordance with contract requirements, regulatory standards, and safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy civil construction, experience managing large-scale public projects, and a solid understanding of Metro or Caltrans policies and procedures.
Job Description:
Lead and manage the construction oversight team including inspectors, office engineers, and project support staff.
Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with contract documents, technical specifications, project schedules, and quality requirements.
Prepare and review daily reports, field records, and construction progress documentation.
Coordinate with local agencies, Metro/Caltrans representatives, utility companies, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Prepare and review contract change orders, assist with claim resolution, and manage budget and cost controls.
Support environmental compliance, traffic management plans, and stormwater pollution prevention measures.
Conduct field inspections and provide technical direction on structural, civil, MEP, and architectural elements of the project.
Assist with the preparation of project documentation, including progress forecasts, summary reports, and final close-out materials.
Ensure compliance with labor laws, safety regulations, and project-specific environmental requirements.
Proactively resolve construction challenges and ensure work is executed in a safe, efficient, and high-quality manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California.
Minimum 10 years of experience in Construction Management, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role overseeing major construction contracts.
Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Strong knowledge of contract administration, construction documentation, and safety protocols.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on Metro or Caltrans projects.
Previous role as Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager on public infrastructure projects valued at $30M or more.
Caltrans-specific knowledge of contract compliance, CAL OSHA regulations, and documentation standards.
Certification as a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or OSHA 30 training.
Experience with urban demolition, street restoration, traffic control, and environmental mitigation.
