Job Description:
The Residential Aide at a homeless shelter provides essential support and assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness. This role involves helping residents with their daily needs, ensuring a safe and supportive environment, and connecting them with available resources and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and Assistance: Provide compassionate support to residents, assisting with basic needs such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and access to medical care.
- Safety and Security: Monitor the shelter environment to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents. Address any safety or security issues promptly and report them to the supervisor.
- Resource Coordination: Assist residents in accessing community resources, including healthcare, employment services, and social services. Facilitate referrals and follow-up as needed.
- Crisis Management: Respond to and manage crises or emergencies calmly and effectively, providing support and intervention as required.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of resident interactions, incidents, and any relevant observations. Complete reports as needed and communicate important information to shelter management.
- Program Participation: Encourage and support residents' participation in shelter programs, workshops, and activities designed to aid their transition out of homelessness.
- Conflict Resolution: Mediate conflicts between residents and help resolve disputes in a fair and constructive manner.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness and organization of common areas, report maintenance issues, and assist with facility upkeep as needed.
- Compliance: Adhere to shelter policies and procedures, as well as local regulations and standards related to homelessness and shelter management.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Required); additional training or certification in social services, counseling, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience working in a social services or support role, particularly with homeless or vulnerable populations, is preferred.
- Food Handling Certificate (Required)

- Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and non-judgmental approach. Ability to handle stressful situations and manage conflicts effectively.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with local social services and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness is beneficial.
