Essential Functions:
• Identifies cancer cases by referencing primary and secondary sources of information, including the facility's diagnostic index and copies of pathology reports generated by the facility's Pathology Department.
• Abstracts cancer registry data, including patient demographics, diagnostic procedures, history and extent of disease, therapeutic procedures and treatment, physician, diagnosis and related information form medical records. Codes topography, morphology and other information relevant to registered tumor patients.
• Maintains audit and quality assurance data and processes for case finding, abstracting, coding, follow-up and data processing procedures.
• Obtains from physicians or patients follow-up data such as treatments and length of survival. Responds to all therapy/follow-up requests from outside facilities, physician practices, regulatory and governmental bodies.
• Prepares routine and special statistical reports, narratives and graphic representations, distributes as appropriate. Coordinates monthly Tumor Boards/Cancer Conferences, in collaboration with JSMC physicians from Surgery, Pathology, Diagnostic Imaging, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. Assists in providing documentation to the Medical Staff Office to secure Category CME Credits for all tumor Board/ Cancer Conference activities.
• Coordinates quarterly Cancer Committee meeting and conducts in-service educational programs for Cancer Registry Department as required.
• Serves as a resource/expert to the JSMC Cancer Committee in regards to the Standards of Approval, as set forth by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS CoC).
• Writes/revises Policies and Procedures pertaining to the JSMC Cancer Registry, with the assistance of the JSMC Cancer Committee.
• Utilizes appropriate reference materials, as required (ICD-O 3, Collaborative Staging Manual, Multiple Primary/Histology Rules and Guidelines, etc.)
• Produces statistical data for the JSMC Cancer Program Annual Report.
• Responds to all therapy/follow-up requests from outside facilities, physician practices, regulatory and governmental bodies.
• Serves as a liaison to all JSMC departments/services on behalf of the JSMC Cancer Program.
• Maintains flexibility in acceptance of assignments to ensure success of the Cancer Program and Cancer Registry Department.
• Preserves the privacy and security of patient health information, adhering to federal and state laws and regulations, facility policy and the National Cancer Registrar Association Code of Ethics.

Associates Degree or higher required.
Required Experience
Minimum Work Experience: Cancer Registry experience preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, specifically in Oncology is preferred.
Computer experience is required.
Attention to detail and consistency is required.
Experience with Kentucky Cancer Registry desired;
