Job Description
Primary Function: The Roadway Construction Superintendent directs activities of union and non-union workers engaged with construction of highways, runways, site development infrastructure or other heavy highway construction projects with an emphasis on moving/hauling dirt.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction
Schedules crews and orders equipment, tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules
Schedules all subcontractor work on daily basis and for the week and communicates daily with the project manager
Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules on the basis of this review and communicates adjustments to the project manager. Ensures all work progresses at a pace that maintains the schedule and owner milestones
Accumulates and accurately enters time and quantities on a daily basis with the assistance of the project engineer
Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules
Additional Responsibilities:
Accumulate and submit all project daily trucking logs and material summary tickets on a daily basis
Order JULIE dig numbers and refresh numbers
Address and resolve complaints by field personnel
Required Skill/Knowledge
Knowledge of construction industry practices and procedures
Demonstrated ability to multi-task across several projects
Proficient in Outlook, Excel, Word
Self-directed and motivated
Demonstrated leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and on budget
Mandatory Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
Must be able to stand up to 12 hours per day with breaks.
Must be able stoop and climb frequently.
Must be able to walk on uneven terrain frequently on job sites.
Must be able to drive a vehicle long distances frequently.
Preferred Skills/ Knowledge: MS Project, P6, Viewpoint and HCSS Heavy Bid and Heavy Job
Education Level / Required Certification: Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management; minimum two years’ experience in heavy highway excavation or a combination of education and experience
Problem Solving: Must be able to resolve scheduling conflicts; work effectively with all levels of field personnel in order to successfully complete the project on time and on budget.
