    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Master’s degree in school social work with a school certification and relative licensure; full licensure

    Meet all requirements established by the Michigan Department of Education for School Social Workers

    Approval issued through the Office of Special Education

    Knowledge of best practice and research-based intervention practices delivered in a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS/RTI)

    Successful experience working with at-risk students

    Knowledge of group dynamics, facilitation, and restorative practices

    Ability to analyze, implement, track, and report intervention plans and strategies

    Spanish language fluency, preferred

    Submit to a criminal background check and be found without a record

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    The School Social Worker is responsible for push-in and co-taught behavioral strategy instruction to build socio-emotional competency in all students. The School Social Worker will also provide behavioral support to students exhibiting at-risk behaviors a minimum of two times per week around key coping strategies and social skills for high-yield school relationships and subsequent academic growth.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Collaborates with classroom teachers to team teach social-emotional skills/strategies and interventions through co-teaching and small group instruction to support academic progress for all children

    Prepares a variety of, primarily, small group lesson outlines and plans for quality, research-based behavioral/social-emotional strategies where students are actively engaged in learning

    Delivers quality lessons covering quality, research-based strategies where students are actively engaged in learning

    Coordinates collaborative planning with classroom teachers to support continuity and alignment of learning

    Works with staff/students to guide and support them in understanding the behavioral support process

    Meets with parents on an as-needed basis to provide community outreach support including traveling with parents to access resources, providing resume and job search support, and providing document translation as needed

    Utilizes community resources to identify and organize workshops for families aligned with parent needs/requests

    Works with students to develop plans for behavioral improvement

    Serves as an advocate for students to help resolve classroom issues; specifically, the School Social Worker works with students to help them understand their specific behavioral needs and then teaches the students how to advocate for themselves with staff

    Researches interventions specific to individual caseload student needs and develops SMART goals

    Maintains data specific to the behavioral support process for caseload students in special education

    Communicates and forms partnerships with parents

    Develops and tracks data for Behavioral Intervention Plans

    Maintains confidentiality with all student records and information

    Supervises and monitors students during lunch periods as scheduled by the Assistant Principal or designee

    Performs other duties as assigned as related to the job description
