SB-38 DUI Counselor The Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse (CADA) is hiring a Counselor to work in our DUI treatment program, SB-38.
Interesting and rewarding position working with individuals referred by the courts to re-instate their driving capability. SB38 is the Senate Bill referring to a DUI program for repeat offenders that drivers must complete when they receive a second DUI conviction within 10 years of a prior DUI or wet and reckless conviction. Be a part of a robust team of Alcohol and Drug Counselors assisting individuals in our community who are managing their legal matters.
This position provides valuable training for those interested in doing one on one counseling and group work with adults, as well as substance use education. Counselor will receive training and experience in assessment, case management, relapse prevention, and appropriate documentation of all of those services.
Opportunity to work for well-established county-wide non-profit organization. Casual, 16 hours per week. Tuesday and Thursday, 11:30am - 8:00pm, +2 mornings. Rate increase potential for bilingual (Spanish/English) & depending on prior training/experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
College degree in helping profession (Counseling Psychology, Sociology, etc.) preferred, equivalent experience acceptable. Minimum two years direct experience in the field of alcoholism required.
Specific knowledge of individual and group counseling principals and techniques, and of psychological testing and diagnostic procedures.
Ability to write appropriate professional letters and reports, to communicate verbally with judges, attorneys, and other professionals, as well as clients from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds.
Ability to recognize own professional limitations so that proper referrals can be made.
High standard of professional ethics.
Bilingual preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts client orientation meetings as required.
When necessary administers, scores, and interprets psychological tests, the results of which are used to gain a more accurate profile of each client.
Conducts group counseling sessions as required.
Conducts individual interview sessions based upon the needs of each client. This includes aiding the clients in defining their personal goals, planning action reflecting their particular interests, abilities, and needs while moving the clients systematically through the intensive educational and treatment program of SB-38.
Occasionally carries client folders to outlying court districts.
Maintains the master roster concerning the status of each client.
Conducts Education Classes (day or evening) when permitted by schedule, upon request from supervisor.
It is the responsibility of the counselors to collect fees from clients.
Performs case management including maintaining files properly documented with client's progress and attendance.
Keeps abreast of the current literature and research in the field of alcoholism.
Upholds a professional image of the Council at all times.
Performs any additional duties as assigned by the SB-38 Director.
Salary range; $22.00 - $25.00 Rate increase potential for bilingual (Spanish/English) & depending on prior training/experience. This is an in-person position and candidate would be required to meet with clients onsite.
