    Border Project LAUNCH Program Position: Counselor full-time. Founded in 1982 in Laredo, Texas, SCAN is a leading provider of social services in South Texas. SCAN offers a friendly and supportive working environment that encourages personal and professional growth.

    Border Project LAUNCH is dedicated to fostering the healthy development and wellness of all young children (birth through age 8) preparing them to thrive in school and beyond. 

    Project LAUNCH focuses on building the capacities of adult caregivers of young children to promote healthy social and emotional development; to prevent mental, emotional and behavioral disorders; and to identify and address behavioral concerns before they develop into serious emotional disturbances.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide prevention and counseling services using evidence-based practices to promote the children's wellness by addressing the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and behavioral aspects of development.
    • Provides individual and group parenting and caregiver trainings for parents or adults caring for children under the age of 8 following an evidence-based curriculum.
    • Provides screening, consultation and referral services for children and their caregivers.
    • Provides case management and referrals.
    • Conducts public awareness activities and educational presentations related to early child development and fostering children's social and emotional health.
    • Administers data collection instruments and records data collected.
    • Documents all services provided and maintains participant charts.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Exceptional emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a broad spectrum of people.
    • Resourceful problem solver who takes initiative.
    • Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills.
    • Ability to multi-task while managing multiple projects.
    • Ability to work independently as well as to be a contributing team member.
    • Maintain a positive attitude as a reflective learner and educator.
    • Likes working with caregivers and children.
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in counseling or clinical psychology is required.
    • LPC Associate eligibility is required. Must have registered for NCE Exam and pass within 3 months of hiring date.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required.
    • Able to work flexible hours.
    • Reliable transportation, proof of insurance, and a valid driver's license are required.
    • One year of work experience providing services to caregivers and children is preferred.
