    Job Description

    SEMCO ENERGY provides meaningful summer employment to qualified students based on the Company's business needs. Placement is based upon the student's college rank, qualifications, career goals, prior relevant work experience, and performance evaluation.

    ELIGIBILITY FOR SUMMER EMPLOYMENT WILL BE DETERMINED AS FOLLOWS:

    • The student must be between the ages of 18 and 25.
    • The student must plan to be enrolled as a full-time student for the 2021 FALL SEMESTER.
    • The student must be DRIVING AND POSSESS A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE FOR AT LEAST A YEAR, and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Safe Driving Policy.
    • The student must be a child of an active employee, disabled employee, or retiree.
    • Only one student per eligible employee or retiree will be hired as a summer employee per year.
    • A maximum of 4 years of employment is available for each eligible student.
    • (These LAST THREE restrictions may be waived based on business needs or geographic availability.)

    The summer employment program consists of a 20-week period beginning on MONDAY, APRIL 12, 2021 and will be ending on TUESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2021. For 2020, the summer employment pay rate will be $14.00 per hour for all college Freshman and Sophomore students, and $15.00 per hour for all college Junior and Senior students (based on college rank for Fall 2020 semester).

    Eligible students may start submitting their ON-LINE APPLICATION on Tuesday, FEBRUARY 16, 2021. The deadline for submission of application forms is MARCH 19, 2021.

    The Human Resources Department will match jobs to applicants based upon their qualifications (including experience working at SEMCO in prior years). IF MORE APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED THAN REQUISITIONS, jobs will be awarded as follows:

    • Prior performance evaluations
    • To children of full-time active or disabled employees (seniors first, then juniors, etc.)
    • To children of retired or part-time active employees (seniors first, then juniors, etc.)
    • Order in which the applications were received by HR (first come, first served basis)

    Any applications received AFTER the deadline of MARCH 19, 2021, will be considered in the order they are received and based on availability of positions.

    All selected candidates will be subject to pre-hire drug testing, a motor vehicle record search, and background check.

    NO SUMMER STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO START UNTIL HR RECEIVES ALL PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT RESULTS (I.E., DRUG SCREEN, MOTOR VEHICLE REPORT, BACKGROUND CHECK). HR WILL NOTIFY THE STUDENTS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE SUPERVISOR AS SOON AS THESE PRE-EMPLOYMENT RESULTS ARE RECEIVED.
