  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The Barn Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance and oversight of all the Stables and other assigned areas; supervises team members who work in the stable, utilize heavy equipment and assist with other areas of maintenance; provides service work support to the higher level management; and performs related tasks within the area of assignment.

    Assumes supervisory responsibility for the maintenance and oversight of all the Stables and other assigned areas; supervises team members who work in the stable, utilize heavy equipment and assist with other areas of maintenance.

    Continuously monitors and maintains the stable area and ensure the facility meets the requirements of the local racing commission; order and monitor all supplies and items needed for an effective operation.

    Prepares, submits and monitors preventive maintenance and capital expenditure requests that will increase the Barns overall performance.

    Recommend and implements changes to improve the overall building and outside look an operation; ensures compliance with all safety standard codes with regard to chemical use and mechanical equipment.

    Oversees the safe operation and care of all necessary heavy equipment including water trucks, tractors, backhoes, road graters, tracker conditioners, materials spreaders, etc.; check and adjust all components of the stable area between each race.

    Supervises team members that maintain all areas inside the stable building to include stable area workers who remove manure to proper receptacles on a regular basis; moves manure receptacles to the outside containers as needed.

    During the “racing off season” the Barn Supervisor may manage employees in regular, routine work or on special assignments or projects; may coordinate with other departments to ensure total guest satisfaction and efficient operations.

    Resolves customer complaints and ensures that all areas of customer service are adhered to.

    May manage and oversee the Farrier’s scheduling & visits and holding of horses as needed.

    Plans, directs, coordinates and reviews the work of the barn team members; assigns work activities, projects and programs; reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures; ensures guest service; meets with team members to identify and resolve problems.

    Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates barn team members; provides team member training; works with team members to correct deficiencies; implements and or approves discipline as appropriate.

    May prepare reports using writing and analytical skills; and prepares federal and state reporting documents; ensures reporting compliance.

    Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and innovations in the fields of Equine or Animal Science.

    Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    High School Diploma or GED, plus five (5) years experience as a Stable Area Supervisor, including one (1) year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in Equine Science, Animal Science or Equine Management is desirable.

    Possession of, and ability to maintain a valid gaming license(s) / certifications per Federal, State and Racing Commission regulation within assigned state of employment.

    Must successfully pass background check

    Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening

    Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.

    Knowledge of:

    Operations, services and activities of barn and facility operations; current Racing Commission regulations; utilization and preventative maintenance schedules of a variety of heavy equipment; principles of supervision and training; principles and procedures of proper record keeping; principles of writing and basic report preparation; office procedures; methods and equipment including computers and applicable software applications; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

    Ability to:

    Meet the physical demands of walking, bending, kneeling, squatting and lifting objects and handle exposure to all elements of weather; ensure a clean and code regulated environment; operate machinery and perform all duties within a barn; select, supervise, train, and evaluate team members; participate in the development and administration of goals, objectives, and procedures; interpret and explain policies and procedures; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; prepare clear and concise reports; interpret and explain policies and procedures; interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations.
