  • Responsibilities

    S&R Enterprises is seeking to fulfill a Safety and Health Technician immediately for a 4 to 5 month. The job site is located in Clayton NC.

    The job is 100% travel to the job site. We’ll take care of travel expenses if you live within the continental United States. Per diem is $700 per week and there is a $700 travel allowance each month for travel back home.

    At the conclusion of the project in Clayton, NC there will be other job sites located throughout the United States that we could use you on. So, this could be a long-term position or temporary for only this job – that’s up to you.

    The Safety and Health Technician will work with our team daily to ensure the facility meets all environmental, health, and safety objectives.

    Responsibilities

    Recognize requirements and ensure compliance to safety programs and standards including hazard communication, slip/trip/falls, fall protection, confined space, hot work, respiratory protection, lockout/tag-out (LOTO), machine guarding, power & hand-held tools, electrical, emergency shower and eyewash, and chemical management

    Identify workplace safety hazards and conditions for job-related tasks

    Maintain and implement compliance of site-specific safety policies

    Maintain job hazard analyses and personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments

    Assist with emergency response drills

    Perform and document safety inspections

    Ensure employees maintain safe work practices

    Assist with critical hazardous operations to manage clear areas

    Document and follow through with corrective actions for identified unsafe conditions

    Assist accident/mishap investigations

    Hazardous and non-hazardous waste management including proper handling, labeling, and storage

    Qualifications

    Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), and Occupational Health Skills

    OSHA 30 required within the past 5 years

    5+ years of experience in construction safety is a plus (3+ years in structural steel construction preferred)

    Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety and Health; Environmental, Health and Safety, or related field is a plus but will not disqualify you as an applicant as long as you meet the qualifications listed..

    Experience in Safety Training and Accident Investigation.

    Certification combination of OSHA 500, CSP, ASP, GSP, CHST, STS-C, etc. preferred.

    Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

    Willingness to travel to various jobs as needed.

    Safety standards knowledge and enforcement

    Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Outlook)

    Spanish is a plus.

    Cost Control

    Make sure safety equipment is secure at end of each day.

    Understand and know the scope of work.

    Resolves issues/conflicts related to daily safety construction activities in a timely manner

    Watch weather reports and try to preplan rain and or other adverse weather days. (i.e.: hurricanes, tornadoes, high winds) In some cases, a decision to cancel the night before will be required to avoid show up time.

    If requested, visit occupational medicine treatment facilities, have extensive knowledge of S&Rs injury management and return to work program and the "ironworker" job description.

    In the event of an injury or near miss fully and neatly complete injury reports, specifically document, in detail, conditions, events, conversations, etc. which protect S&R’s interests. Must turn this in weekly.

    Assist superintendent in the completion of S&R’s notice of unsafe condition or equivalent.

    Leadership

    In all cases maintain a positive attitude, and approach to the task at hand and to S&R’s customers

    Always do what is best for the company in all work-related endeavors.

    Represent S&R Steel both from a customer relation standpoint and also lookout for S&R’s concerns 100%.

    Work as a team with all parties within S&R Enterprises.

    Promote a positive attitude among employees towards the good of the company.

    Make sure all required paperwork is complete and accurate before submission to the office.

    Train employees, as necessary.

    Assist in Housekeeping efforts to maintain a clean and organized jobsite.

    Maintains tools and supplies.

    Evaluates causes of construction near misses or incidents to create a solution for the immediate correction and prevention of reoccurrence.

    Provides input to employee’s performance evaluations (safety aspect)

    Assists in the identification of internal and external training opportunities.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Nature of work requires an ability to potentially walk/work constantly on uneven ground, in extreme temperatures. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Work at heights and the ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolds, or use aerial or lifts (following training). As such the Field Safety Technician must be able to don and wear conventional fall protection equipment which has 300# universal weight restrictions.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work performed in general construction industry. May require availability for overtime hours and some travel. Requires periodic participation and attendance at company events and meetings.     Temporary Full-Time (total project to last 4 - 5 months+) Long term position pass the probationary time frame will be taken into consideration based on performance. Pay range $30 - $34 per hour depending on experience
