Job Description

The colleague will assist with all aspects of Biospecimen Sample Logistics (BSL).

• Generation of labels and labeled tubes to support sample collection. Inventorying, sorting, and storing samples as part of our biobank.
• Receive and deliver samples from study locations, central laboratories, and analysts.
• Work under Biosafety Level 2 conditions following aseptic technique.
• Processing biospecimens, including centrifugation and aliquoting of samples using a Hamilton automation system.
• Create sample manifests and coordinate shipments while ensuring sample integrity.
• Discard samples that have reached their retention time limit.
• Willing to learn and navigate ThermoFisher Watson LIMS or other electronic sample tracking systems. Troubleshooting of lab automation and processes.
• Able to operate under both GLP/GCP and non GLP/GCP conditions.
• Assemble study execution kits for shipping to external study locations.
• Produce shipping certifications to satisfy DOT regulations.
• Participate in periodic freezer inventory and scheduled maintenance.
• Adhere to SOPs, protocols, and basic lab safety guidelines.

Advanced:

• Enable reference standard production requests through labeling, tube filling and automated storage.
• Potentially analyze biospecimens, e.g., blood chemistry, milk SCC, Clin Path, blood smears, immunoassays.
• Enable automation utilization through executing preventative maintenance; expand sample types impacted through programming advancements.
• Provide inventory / consumable management leveraging 5S principles.
• Execute continuous improvement projects following Lean Six Sigma principles.

Qualifications

• Able to successfully manage tasks and time in an ever-changing environment.
• Is comfortable with learning/using lab automation and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Possesses Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Has a bachelor’s or associate degree with 3+ years relevant experience.
• Be flexible and agile in executing on a dynamic portfolio.
• Possesses strong communication skills.
• Collaborative mentality, willingness to work as a team is essential.
