    Sansom Consulting is a small business in consulting and staffing.  We are professional and agile.  We have partnered with a leading worldwide supplier of U.S.-designed and manufactured tools and equipment for the HVAC/R and automotive industries in seeking a Director of Engineering.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Director of Engineering is responsible for managing and overseeing the engineering function for the entire organization including business case for new products and their corresponding rollouts. Prioritizing opportunities and creating product designs that allow us to position ourselves as the frontrunner in the industry is crucial. Designs need to be able to meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and ensure manufacturing is as efficient as possible. New products are released in a phase-gate process and the ability to ensure all steps are properly managed is essential. This position oversees mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers. This position is located in the South Metro and is a privately owned company.

    RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

    • Generates product concepts by determining the technical feasibility of new product ideas and updates
    • Develops and directs procedures and methods to ensure quality standards are met and maintained
    • Provides engineering expertise and training as needed to the organization
    • Approves new and changes to Bill of Materials
    • Manages product design from design to rollout
    • Maintains and updates the company’s engineering systems and software
    • Recommends methods, materials and layouts for improvement based on manufacturing needs and capabilities
    • Conducts research to identify market opportunities for new products
    • Establishes target specifications for new products
    • Evaluates product offering to identify next ventures
    • Maintains an awareness and understanding of industry new products and regulations
    • Evaluates existing products for profitability, market share, and trends
    • Identifies existing product deficiencies by monitoring failures, returns, and repairs
    • Team up with Quality and Customer Service to correct complaints from customers
    • Works with vendor selection for raw components
    • Executes “make vs buy” analysis and recommendations
    • Project management responsibility on key projects
    • New product rollout training to all relevant staff and contractors
    • Attends sales meetings to discuss trends and market changes
    • Attends trade shows

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Builds, develops, and manages an engineering team to carry out business objectives
    • Coordinate training and development as needed to address areas of growth in the team
    • Team Selection and Management: Responsible for interviews, selection, onboarding, time approval, time off calendar management, performance reviews, and addressing performance concerns of engineering team

    EDUCATION/ SKILLS /EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
    • Minimum of 3 years of engineering management work experience
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in new product design or design project management
    • Must be able to interpret and compare technical product specifications
    • Must be able to write technical product specifications
    • Must have strong project management experience

     

     

    Job Type: Full-time

     

     

    Pay: $150,000.00 - $230,000.00 per year
