  • Responsibilities

    Position Purpose

    To schedule the pickup and delivery appointments of freight with shippers and consignees in a manner that best utilizes Company assets while satisfying customer load requirements.

    Job Functions

    • Schedule pickup and delivery appointments for orders with unconfirmed appointments.
    • Calculate the optimal appointment times for the pickup and delivery of freight considering such factors as legal and expected tractor transit times, time zone changes, customers’ hours of operation, and Company operating requirements (such as the need to balance available capacity with freight demand, and the ability to “stack” freight in an effort to increase asset utilization).
    • Negotiate with shippers and consignees to secure the optimum appointment times that minimize in-transit delays, while satisfying order delivery requirements and customer needs.
    • Understand the unique freight handling characteristics and delivery requirements of the various commodities the Company hauls. Understand the dock time needed for performing labor on orders with multiple stops.
    • Communicate with Customer Service about orders booked with excessive in-transit delay. Reschedule pickups and deliveries on orders that have appointments that would cause poor equipment utilization or to protect service.
    • Identify and communicate internal and external opportunities for improving order transit times to Sales and Customer Service Management.
    • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
    • Ability to work on a SOAR Transportation site or SOAR Transportation customer location site while performing the essential functions of this position.
    • Other duties as assigned by management.

    Key Knowledge and Experience

    • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
    • Knowledge of Driver’s Hours of Service (HOS) requirements
    • Demonstrate basic computer skills and ability to type 25-30 wpm.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills. Uses telephone techniques effectively. Skilled negotiator.
    • Effective time management. Able to process large volumes of transactions quickly and accurately. Works well under stress.
    • Develops and maintains positive customer relations. Knows and understands the needs of shippers and consignees.
    • Good math and problem-solving skills.
